Steering system warning light
Has anyone else had this problem? Two days ago, on my 2007 X5, right after I started the car and drove for a little (out of a parking lot), and made a turn on to a major street, RED warning light and a message that there is a problem with my steering system, to stop and call BMW service came on. On front dash board and in my navigation system as well. I stopped, turned off the engine and in a minute or so re-started the car. Since then I have not seen this happen again (for 2 days of driving) or so. My question is, has anyone else experienced anything of this nature? Is this something to be concerned about or just let it go and expect it to not ever happen again? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated...

Andrey, not sure what you mean by active steering. I have a standard 2007 X5 3.0si. If they made active steering at that time, then most likely I do have it on my BMW.

It's an option you would purchase separately
It cost around 1500 I had it on my 2008 335i and it malfunctioned once When restarted the car it went away and never came back again for the duration i owned the car Honestly, i wouldn't worry about it too much, unless it's reoccurring problem |

BMW sensors are set for autobahns. Period. Every bump or series of them or swift change of direction over something less than perfect horizontal, can trigger an alarm message on your screen. I had a shim-sham over a little piece of road crap, probably one wheel went off the tarmac, and the computer told me that I have a problem with traction. Please contact your BMW dealer. ))))))))))))))))))))

Did the steering warning light have the car tilted on 2 wheels? I had that error message come up and had to get the steering pump replaced. Check your steering fluid. If your almost dry, that's probably what it is. I hope your under warranty.

Yesterday it happened to me again. Warning light with car tilted on 2 wheels. This happened after I made a sharp turn. I stopped, shut off the engine, waited for a few minutes, re-started. Message cleared and did not come back all day long. Should I try adding steering fluid? Any other suggestions? I don't want this to get worst than it is now.

Can someone post an image of where steering fluid reservoir is located on BMW X5 E70? Also, can I use any power steering fluid or do I need special brand/name/model? Thank you.
