Lets just say there is significant room for improvement and that is putting it mildly.

Coming from an amateur photographer who likes night photography, there was plenty of light at your shoot location. Take your camera out of Auto mode if you haven't already and don't use you stock flash. Learn to live in Tv (shutter priority) and/or Av (aperature pritority) for now. If your camera doesn't have those modes, use Program mode.

Find what ISO setting on your camera yields the most reasonable balance between light sensitivity and noise (graininess in your photos) and stay below that setting. Mess around w/ exposure and shutter times. Step back from your car, too. Close ups and macros are only interesting in certain cases.

Above all else, keep practicing.

you can avoid boring shots by taking them at different distances, height, and angles, but make sure the whole car fits in the frame, or takes up 1/3rd of the frame

No problem and understandable. Part of photography is trying to frame interesting/fetching shots. Some things work; other don't. Experiment and see what works.

Try this the next time out, do not take a picture standing up. Get down low and move the camera around. Slightly off axis pictures can add extra impact to the pictures. You can even go as far as having the camera all the way on the ground. It may take several shots to frame it but hey its digital so they are free.

Also play with the depth of field a little. This is usually controlled by your aperture ( the f-xx number) The lower the number the shallower the depth of field, this also allows more light into the camera since the iris opening is larger. Yes, it’s a little counter intuitive but smaller number = larger opening = more light.

NEVER be afraid to delete a bad picture and shoot a lot of them every time you are out. It’s not a bad thing to go out, shoot a hundred pictures and end up with only one keeper. It is not a failure as long as you learned something from it. Also be ready for criticism, some constructive and some, well, just be ready for the not-so-helpful to jump out and rain on your parade.

Of all of them #7 is the best and should be the one you keep, the rest of them should be on the cutting room floor, again they are digital, they cost next to nothing so dont feel like you have to keep every one of them. Lmit yourself to only the best.

You can PM me anytime if you have questions.

Here are a few sites that have some good tips.
