Yeah, i did it...
Hey,
I did it to my 09, i ordered my car thinking it came with the ashtray and mine was one of the first few that was produced with the cubby hole... So when i got the car, i complained and had to call BMW Canada. They finally agreed to retro-fit the ashtray in - which even though i don't smoke, i think looks nicer... But, the problem is, there is no power for the lighter socket... if you don't order your car with the smokers package it doesn't come pre-wired... and the dealer won't run a wire for you for warranty reasons. And don't even think of doing it yourself... it's a huge job... they have to pull out the radio and front console controls, then then the tranny tunnel all has to come off (gear shifter, cup holder, armrest). The reason being that for them to install the ashtray, it comes in a modular design, and the modules all have to clip together starting with - yup, the ashtray - and then everything else clips to it from there... Crazy. |

If you need an additional power socket you can use this:
http://leatherz.com/Merchant5/mercha...ode=E82_Safety You could easily run some wire from the power socket under the armrest. The P3 boost gauge uses power from the socket under the arm rest and running the wire from there to under the headlight switch was a breeze. |

Since you have 2 threads going, I wasn’t sure which to respond to.
I thought the 2010 got a power outlet under the glovebox, or was that just the E9X? The easiest way would be to add the ashtray and pull power off the spot under the glovebox. The other option is to pull power from the fusebox. The third option is to hardwire whatever you need powered. |

I ended up direct wiring to my sunroof, all is well, but........ when I open the sunroof all the way my radar gets turned off??? Anyone have this problem? P.S. Sorry bout the double post, sorta still new to this site... Thanks again. |

why to the sunroof? makes sense that it turns off when it open since they prob cut the power to it till you go to close it
i would say just add a fuse to wire it to there, def the safest bet it will always work or to the mirror, that should work also |
