Drivetrain Malfunction after hard braking

Hey all,

This morning on my way into work the car in front of my slammed on their brakes and I did as well. As I came to a stop I got a Drivetrain malfunction warning and lost all my even gears. I pulled the codes and got the following codes. Car is a 2016 M3 DCT tunes are all stock.

Under OBD codes
P179D

Under Transmission codes
40F202
40F101

I cleared the codes and turned the car off and back on at the light and they all cleared and did not come back. The car drove as normal with no issues after. just wondering if anyone has had anything similar happen or if anyone has any idea of what the issue might be. I searched and only found M5 posts about the codes

First step would be to find out what those codes refer to
Typically, transmission errors during hard braking are caused by low/improper transmission fluid levels.

Acceleration Sensors. Mine went out at a track day quickly decelerating for a turn. Car had about 55000 miles on the clock. My understanding is this isn’t uncommon after some wear and tear.

interesting I’ll look into that. Did you get transmission codes as well? My car is also not equipped with the EDC so I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

I did not. It’s a 2016 6MT. After the message it drove like crap. Like a Fred Flinstone car…absolutely zero dampening.

I have EDC…we are likely talking about 2 different errors.
