2 questions
1) Has anyone bought an f8x thru carmax and did their warranty cause any issues when trying to make a claim? Were they able to actually provide bumper to bumper coverage? If anyone has any experience with MaxCare, carmax's warranty please let me know. 2) The car has leather bolstering on the driver side that is cracking/scuffed slightly. carmax won't replace it as it is wear and tear and the cars honestly almost in perfect condition, the pic is going to be under this. Could I fix this for a reasonable price or would I need to buy a whole new seat. Last edited by bsmf8x; 05-16-2020 at 12:19 AM.. |

I feel like BMW would've replaced that under new car warranty had that happened. Your best bet might be to swap in a used seat from a junk yard. That might be super difficult given the fact these while mass produced, are still quite limited at the end of the day.
Edit: looks like BMW sells a replacement lower part of the driver seat for around $500........if it bothers you so much, may as well

I had similar wear but not quite as bad. It's a common problem. Fixed it using Colourlock and you can't even tell unless you looked very closely, as the color is just very slightly different. Don't let this deter you. I had a great experience buying from CarMax and have heard great things about maxcare. Get the F034 black color here:

That's a non issue if the car is perfect in every other way. You can get that dyed very easily. I've had cars with worse wear and a mobile leather rejuvenation guy fixed it.

Yes it's permanent. Also I have read other threads that dealers won't replace or fix it under warranty. I wouldn't count on bmw fixing it.
Here's a pic of how it looks after using Colourlock. The lighter area is just reflection from a garage light. It looks like new. Last edited by IVM3; 05-16-2020 at 02:06 PM.. |

Maxcare is NOT a bumper to bumper warratny. It is however a fantastic aftermarket/3rd party warranty.
Just get the seat dyed, no biggie. Enjoy your new car! |

I don't have a DIY but I just followed their directions. I applied 3 light coats using the black sponge they provide, waiting about 15 minutes between coats. I found using light, smooth ppressure was best to get it spread out evenly. I feathered it out as I went up the bolster because I didn't do the whole bolster. I even touched up some of the leather next to the stitching that was worn through to a white color. I just used the edge of the sponge to dab it lightly. You really can't mess it up as long as you don't accidentally stain the stitching. And if you stain the stiching in a couple of places, it's still not noticeable unless you obsess over it. But like others said, a leather repair shop could easily fix this for you. It's easy enough that I think it's worth doing yourself for 40 bucks. Last edited by IVM3; 05-16-2020 at 08:11 PM.. |

The Carmax warranties have proven to be very generous in the past, but honestly I wouldn't bother on the F80 as long as the car has the proper service history. The platform has proven to be so reliable that I'm not sure you'd break even on the cost (which has gone up considerably in the past few years).

If your wondering if the MaxCare warranty is worth it
I also had a 07' STi with MaxCare and I was able to take it to any shop and have carmax call over the phone and pay them. Pretty neat, only had a small $300 deductible also. |

I have a brand new BMW black Colourlock kit if you’re interested. I’ll sell it cheap. I bought it for my previous BMW but then sold the car as is. PM me if interested. I think it was $60-70 when I bought it.

BMW dealership replaced my driver seat under warranty for the same issue. I think it is hit and miss with the service departments. If you have a good relationship with them it seems to help.
