Lane departure warning disabled every time car starts
I just picked up a new X5 M50d last week and I've noticed that when I push the Intelligent Safety Button button in the center console everything is enabled except for 'lane departure warning'. I can enable it but everytime I restart the car its disabled again. Is there is a reason for this or is this a fault?

It is not a fault. As far as i know, lane departure warning does not work at speeds lower than 55 to 70 km/h (country dependent). I assume that is the reason why it shuts off automatically every time you turn off the vehicle. It does not say anything in the owner's manual however. I think that it probably can be coded to remember the last setting, just like start/stop function.

Hmmm, that is strange. Mine has NEVER turned itself off when turning the engine off. 6 months in a 40e F15 and now 6 months in my beloved 35d F15 and Lane Departure is on every single time I start the engine (battery, lol).

What colour does the ring around the Intelligent Safety Button light up when you start the engine?
My guess is that it is green, but when you press it you actually disable LDW, and turns amber. If the circle is green, all systems are on. Last edited by CatalinP; 04-08-2018 at 09:13 AM.. |

| What he said. You can also verify the lane departure warning is on by looking for the lane indicators between the speedometer and the tach on the analog dash: or looking for the same but smaller indicator below the temperature gauge on the digital dash.

might be something weird with remembering your profile. I had an issue with sat radio presets.
I was using comfort access to lock/unlock the car as I had become accustomed to using it on my previous car. It seemed to take all other profile settings just fine without needing to lock/unlock with the fob so I figured it had nothing to do with it. Well, finally I used the fob to unlock the car, update the presets and then use the fob to lock the car. It took the settings just fine after that and I've had no issues. Give that a try and see if it still forgets the setting.

I have similar issue except mine is the pedestrian warning system which is "deactivated" every time I press the "green" button whether the car is stationary or in motion at speeds greater or less than 60kmph.

This is NORMAL. Every time you touch the Intelligent Safety button, you are changing the active mode. If the Intelligent Safety button is green, everything is activated. When you press the button, you are toggling over to your Individual Settings which also happens brings up the Intelligent Safety menu. Apparently, your Individual Settings has pedestrian warning deactivated. If you press and hold the button, all Intelligent Safety systems are deactivated and the button light extinguishes.

That is correct. If it is green, you should not press it again unless you want to deactivate something. Mine is red at the start and i have to press it to see that Lane Departure Warning is deactivated. It is not an issue for me as i never use it anyway.

I am using my X3 at present but I do remember turning off the lane change system and the LED light in the button remained green and did not change to orange as indicated in the owner's manual. The manual does state that these systems by default are activated every time the car is started. However I have seen some strange warnings re intelligent safety systems not active when I have done some E Sys coding changes to the BDC module hence my interest in this thread.

Still, it should remember the last setting. I have my lane departure warning off and everything else on, and it remembers it for each start.

Most annoying feature I have ever experienced. Had one in a 2018 X5 loaner. Thankfully mine does not have this and hopefully it can be disabled if so equipped.
