8 Series Production Numbers

5,345 from the thread on the homepage. That’s 2024 US sales. Just 1.4% of total BMW US units sold. And that’s across 9 models! When you start thinking about what percentage of that 5,345 is one of three M8 variants….I had no idea the numbers were so small.

After seeing these numbers I can understand why they already stopped coupe production. Will be interesting to see what larger convertible BMW has in 3 years when it’s time for a new one. I hope they have something….🤷🏻‍♂️

I wonder how we can find out the individual numbers for each model?

Now I feel much better that I owned 2 out of +5000 , 8 series built 😊
Most probably I can say 2 out of 600-800 M8 Coupe if that 5345 is real

I actually think with all the years of the 8 series from 2019 to today production is well over 50k units.

You should be able to pull each year and add them up here: https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...18?language=en

Don't have time to dig for all the years but this is what the break down is so far:
2018 923
2019 12,219
2020 20,703
2021 > 14,165

I clarified the original post…..5,345 is the 2024 US number of 8 series cars.

Where did you get this from? I emailed BMW corporate and they wouldn't give me jack squat! Then asked for my VIN # to update their records, lol. I would love to find a breakdown of how many M850i's were sold and how many were Twilight Purple, why they cannot give me that information seems ridiculous.

No I got lazy but if you go to that link you can edit which years that is what I was doing. I know 22 will be much much lower due to Covid...

It’s pretty much good number for a +100k cars.

I just traded my 840i coupe in, 2 years old with 15000kms on it

Took a 45% hit in depreciation (that doesn't include all the $$$ I spent on mods)

The types of people that would want a car like that typically can't afford it; young males in their 20s etc

And the ones that can will probably prefer an m4 which is the same price.

I'm getting an rs6 as I want a v8 before they're obsolete.

Gonna miss my beemer though

Well I traded in my 2020 M8 last July and while my customized order 2025 M4CX was arrived at dealership, decided to leave it for dealer and picked the 2024 M8.
So no … not everybody prefer M4.
M8 is completely another class and V8 is a big advantage.
Interior, Exterior, Power, Quickness, Sound, etc all are the superiority of M8 over M4.

I was talking about the 840i, which is the same price as an m4.

Actually with discounts and incentives, 840 monthly payment is much less than M4

Used I think the M4 commands a higher price still. M850i's go for about $64k while the M4 seems to go for about just under $70k. (2022's only of course) I saw 2023 and 2024 I will have to mess with the finder dealy up top and see what I can find.

Personally, I wouldn't touch a 2023-2024 4 series since it's the kind that is going to be stuck with ID8 and cannot be updated to 8.5. Stuck with the original ID8? No thanks!

In Australia an m4 or an 840i will set you back $200k

An m850i is $300k

And an m8 is $400k that's around $250k us dollars (hence you never see any 8s here)

The main reason for these ridiculous prices is luxury car tax

They all depreciate around the same % here

We have had a luxury tax for 2 years now in Canada. If it doesn't go away, it should at least be raised from $100k to $200k starting point. None of it takes into account a weaker dollar and inflation driving prices up AND now into the luxury tax level.

New M850i is about $135k for coupe, $150k for cabriolet (before any tax). Canada funds. Used prices are appealing though and there's many low mileage examples to choose from.

The Luxury Car Tax in Minnesota is when you go to title the car and have to get tabs for it. Most expensive sticker I have had to buy.
