To paint or not to paint...

...that is the question!

I am thinking of getting the rear bumper sprayed all white.

What do others think?

What would be great (and appreciated) is if someone with any Photoshop or other app skills could mod these two pics so we could see what it would look like all in the same colour: Mineral White.

Cheers...

Maybe it looks different because of the unusual paint colour.

It's not that it looks bad, I just think it would look 'better' painted MW.

But I'd really like to see it first before getting it done.

Must admit, I haven't seen a real lot of other MWs in Bris - nearly all AW.

The rear diffuser on your car looks darker in colour than the grey plastic that is normally used. Is that a carbon fiber 'performance' option?

I think the diffuser looks good the way it is, so I personally wouldn't paint it. I would be considering dual exhaust outlets instead. I am pretty sure that would be an improvement, but maybe I could get used to the single outlet as it is.

Because of the design of the diffuser, I fear it will look silly painted, as if somebody, ah...painted it aftermarket.

The non-sport E92 looks fine but has a different design.

Personally I think the diffuser only enhances the look, making it look less bulky, more athletic.

Also, will hide the diesel soot better

Is your diffuser painted already? I know some new 335i have it painted as opposed to the previous grey plasticky bit. Personally, I have seen a few painted white diffusers and I have to say, leave it as is. The ones ive seen didn't look that good and the rear loses its Msport definition.

Thanks for the comments

It is painted from the factory, but for some weird reason they leave a strip of unpainted dull plastic between the painted glossy grey and the MW of the body.

Look here and you will see what I mean (crappy photo on BlackBerry on dirty car - jesus I wish it would stop raining here!!!)....

http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/402/rear4r.jpg

It will just need a wipe over with rubber sealer after each wash to give it that 'glossy look'...

I think I might just leave it as it is, as I said previously I don't think it looks 'bad' - I just thought it might look better painted - but I take on board the comments about losing its genuine 'look'.

Having said that, I am definitely going to get twin exhaust tips as they really do look nicer and finish off the rear-end nicely.

Instead of painting your rear bumper all one colour, I will swap you my standard rear bumper and spray it Mineral White for you

I wouldnt. I like the black/white contrast. It you paint it it will look more like the stock bumper.

I think its because that little strip is part of the car and not part of the diffuser. Not sure why they wouldnt paint it then though.

I would get the bmw performance diffuser sport kit from usa or uk
bmwparts web site or bmminiparts.com uk
and get the section painted it will look a lot better as a few of us in brisbane has done this windsor bmw body shop will paint it.
They make one for a single exhaust pipe.

This one here-

I'm on the 'leave it alone' side of the fence here.

If you wanted it to look different you could paint it glossy black/grey or wrap it in carbon fibre vinyl to give a unique look.
