18" vs 19" whats your preference

Hello,

Switching out of my 19" CSL reps as they are kind of heavy 19x8 (12.6kgs) and 19x9 (13.1kg), car not actually feeling as nimble as it can be. Looking at the Forgestar F14

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=350399

or even the O.z. Ultraleggaras, both identical in weight

18x8.0 – 8.5kg

18x9.0 – 8.9kg

19x8.5 – 9.7kg

19x9.0 – 10.2kg

Never been so undecided.... both 18" or 19" would be a much improvement but not sure whether I'll regret the smaller rim's less attractiveness proportionwise.

I'd always go 19s, if you want performance and lightness go 18s.

18s don't look too bad if you get the right tyre profile and the car is lowered.

I reckon Forgestar has some great quality products, very reasonably priced AND lightweight wheels. It's only their designs are nothing special!!!

What you gonna do with the CSL reps?

Probably keep them, extra set of shoes. coz the Forgestars or either the O.Z. will be black or Gunmetal.

Roll around on the 19s, keep the 'new rims' for special occasions when you NEED lightness.

By using the reps as your day to day rims, a little part of you won't die when you kerb them!

+1. For an E92, 19's definitely look the part. If you're not too fussed about ride quality then it's a great size.

If you were looking for lightness/comfort then 17s would be the option anyway.

18's are the correct choice but I agree as you've got used to the look of the car on 19 CSL lookalikes any 18 will look rather lost for a while. Getting a darker finish will lessen the effect as in the link or with the M3's standard rims.

If you have a sport package I would go with 18"'s they wont rub, they fill the wheel well and the tires are much cheaper to replace (even though you may pay more for an 18" or 20" wheel)

19"s for sure, I think the danger with going 18"s when you buy them is you might wish that you had gone with the looks of the 19"s so will keep you wanting...offcourse if it was all about comfort I would stick with my 16"s

19' Advan RS was on my shopping list but the wife likes to curb my rims especially the the rear left one.
Not worth the heart ache so I've decided to stick with the OEM 230.

An other option you may want to consider are the ADV-TEN trackspec. Then again they're not cheap.

I'd suggest 17" for comfort / 19" for looks. For me, 18" is the right compromise between looks and comfort especially with the crappy roads we have. With 18" its important to choose a simple style, so not to emphasize the smaller size of the wheel. Styles like BMW 313 (and Miro reps), Advan RS, VMR V701, and the various CSL reps can look quite decent in 18".

true, your Advans look almost like 19"s because of their design. Btw did you have to roll your fenders to avoid rubbing issues with passengers at the back?

Fenders are stock. My rims are non-staggered so I have an easy 10mm rear fender clearance with ET32 offset on the LCI. The recommended Advan RS rear fitment is for wider 9.5" rim at ET35 which will bring the rear tyre very, very close to the fender on the LCI, but leave some space on the coupe and even more so on the pre-LCI sedan. The 9.5" ET35 rim would look super agressive on my car, but I don't see the need for more rubber on the back of my 325i. From my point of view it would be nothing more than excess weight, and also prevent me doing tyre rotation.

Sorry scratch that, I just did some research and a few of the names i mentioned in 19" were just way too heavy. i.e. VMR's and 885s

19" are the goods on an E9x ... not to take anything away from those that run 17" or 18" but a good set of 19" staggered rims looks very tidy
