From past postings, your only option is to purchase the alarm system ($245 at getbmwparts.com) and install it yourself (which seems rather simple). At that point the light would work when you lock the doors. If you want full function of the system, however, you'd need to take it to the BMW dealer for a software update, which would probably cost you an add'l. $200 or so...

That is rigging it to work. Do it right and get the alarm as long as you have a pre 3/09 built car..

I know...The OP asked if there was a way without installing the OEM alarm. Otherwise I would have directed him to the OEM alarm DIY here on the forum that I followed to install my alarm.

You could also install the RemoteKey+ module from EAS, that will give you clown nose blinking, the chirp when locking and unlocking the car and also some convenience features for windows/mirrors. Not related but happy customer of it ..

For the chirping you would need have the alarm installed but it doesn't have to be activated by the dealer?

With the remoteKey+ it comes with a cable for connecting to the OEM clown nose as well as a cable and peizo buzzer for chirping. No OEM alarm or programming needed.

The chirp, and the alarm as a whole, doesn't work without coding it to your car. It would be pointless to buy and install the alarm just for the chirp.

Thanks for the info on the remoteKey+. I was wondering how it would chirp if you didn't have the OEM alarm installed.
