G60 M60 First Impressions

Hi folks

Was having my 2022 M550 serviced and considering the G60 540 when my lease is up later next year. The dealership had the M60 in the showroom and I got to sit in it and even hook up CarPlay to test the Bowers & Wilkins. Here are some random overall observations.

1) The Merino Leather seats felt good definitely will option that. The fewer adjustments compared to the luxury seats I currently have didn’t seem too bad as the seat is comfy enough to not really require too many adjustments - this 6’ guy sat just fine.

2) The lack of leather on the steering wheel cap really cheapens the whole vehicle and also the flat bottom just looks weird. Also I couldn’t figure out if the center console armrest was the Merino leather or leatherette - it felt like leatherette to me compared to the softness of the seat. Also on the door the arm rest was leatherette. I hope they’ll have the option for a true leather dash next year which might extend the leather. Very disappointing.

3) Bowers & Wilkins sound quality - good news - it sounded pretty much identical to the existing B&W Diamond Surround Sound system I have in my M550, at least at the volume I was able to get it in the M60 in the showroom. Perhaps just a tiny bit less refinement in the treble but that difference would be completely eradicated when you’re on the road and dealing with everyday road noise. Will not be disappointed they simply rebranded H&K as B&W as it seems they’ve improved the overall quality. $900 vs $3500 or whatever I paid for the real system - no brainer to save some money until they revise the Diamond system further. Also note there is a physical volume button in the center console.

4) I love the classic BMW gear shifter in my M550 so the little dongle to change gears (this car had the executive package so it was glass) will take some getting used to.

5) I had wanted to keep the moonroof but the panoramic sunroof in the M60 might make me change my mind! I probably have the sunroof open 1% of the time and the cabin does feel airier with the pano option.

6) Ambient lighting looked really fun but not sure about extending that to the interaction bar which was specced in this M60. Seems a little distracting…

7) I probably wouldn’t add the M Sport package as the exterior looks too boxy with it. Will need to see a regular trim in person to make the final decision. Perhaps I can ask the dealer to spec individual elements from the package such as the stitched steering wheel.

8) This model had skyscraper grey. Will go with Brooklyn grey or tanzanite for my build.

That’s pretty much it any questions let me know!

Are you sure it wasn't Oxide Gray? I didn't think Skyscraper was available (I'd have ordered it if it was!)

The Harman Kardon system in my Giulia needed some break in to sound decent. It was a little flat initially but improved a lot over a few weeks. If the B&W system sounded good right out of the box, I'm sure it's only going to get better down the road.

Well, I was secretly hoping you were correct--although I'd have been annoyed if you were because I would have gotten that color. I have Tanzanite Blue in production which looks great but will be harder to maintain than my current Bluestone M550.

What's your full spec? The Brooklyn Grey had a bit of a blue tint to it which I liked and preferred over the other greys I saw (including Skyscraper on another model)... it is a very popular color though but then again, you don't see too many 5 series on the roads these days so it's not going to be like that Jeep/Honda toner color going around far too much.

Malpatti -

Tanzanite with the copper brown Merino (just could not bring myself to go with the fake leather, despite the fact that I’m not a fan of the two tone on the Merino). And then every option but Premium not Executive because I want a sliding moonroof.

They offer Merino with Silverstone now. I wish I had that available but went with Ext Merino Copper/Atlas. IMO Silverstone looks great with Tanz or any color truly. and if you look at the US config, the Silverstone seats look diff, more like the X5 M seat.

Silverstone would be way too light for me.

Silverstone will delete lumber support in the US, at least for now.

Can someone explain what the luxury seating package gets you? Is it just the heated rear seats?

And it allows for more customization of the front seats along with ventilation.
I ordered the package on my car as the wife as a long commute.
