Experience with tire warranty?
The wife hit a pothole and destroyed the OE run-flat tire on her car. Since it's AWD with over 18K miles on the tires, I told her that we need to replace both sides of the axle. She got pissed and said "I guess we should have gotten the tire insurance."
I disagree... however, it made me wonder. Typically when you destroy a tire and have it replaced under insurance, I'm guessing that they'll only pay for the one bad tire, not both (if you need to have both sides replaced such as in AWD or rear tires). The rule of thumb as I've heard is that if you have one worn tire and one new tire on the same driven axle, you can damage the differential. Anyone here have real life practical experience with this? Do they pay for both tires? BTW, we're replacing all four with Michelin A/S 4+ conventional tires.
