Just got my Redz

Hey hey,

I just picked up my 2022 Melbourne Red M240i (my first red car). Lucked out and found one that was the fleet car for the auto show at the release of the '22 model, so it has every possible option and it only has 500 miles on it. My 1st BMW was a 2013 335is (my favorite car that I've ever owned and I had it tuned to ~500hp at the crank with 1/4 tank e85 mix), so I am excited to be back "in the club" again even if the steering feel bar was set crazy high with E92.

I love this forum, because it's invaluable when it comes to information and upgrades. I already have the spoiler, painted reflectors, matte CF trim on order and some other goodies ready to spruce up the new whip.

Cheers!

Congratulations!!

From my experience with red cars, the clear coat is not as strong as other colors. At least on my Honda. Of course that depends on how long you plan to keep the car. My RSX had the clear coat start flaking off when it was 10-12 years old.

Other then that, red is an awesome color for a car. I order Thundernight because purple isn’t a common color on a car, but red is always at the top of my list.

Thanks! I am already planning to get it ceramic coated and PPF'd (the front bumper/hood). I can tell that it'll need some paint correction. Only 500 miles at purchase, but it is a year old. I like Thundernight Metallic in the sun!

Honda paints are such trash, imo. Out of all of the brands, I keep seeing Accords/Civics with awful-looking flaking/chipping/discolored paint. I used to have a 2000 Black Honda Prelude but the black held up nicely.

Tint looks nice! I just requested a couple quotes for the same PPF and tint that you got... I think seeing this 20% is the right level to go with.

Thank you. I've always done 20% all around and never had any problem with the cops. This time around I got the recommended 70% front windshield IR tint. It should cool the cabin some more and help with the sun glare on the eyes (everyone knows that time of day when it tries to blind you, haha). My detail shop gave me a discount for getting everything done there, so while not exactly cheap, it was a welcome treat.

It looks fantastic. Couldn't help but notice your detailer is in White Marsh and you're in Rockville, a good 50 miles assuming you went over the bridge or through one of the tunnels, is your detailer worth that trek?

Yup. 50 miles is right. Totally worth the trip (2nd car of mine that they do). Absolutely excellent service and I prefer their Kavaca PPF over Xpel / Suntek because it self-heals without having to be heated up.

Looks sharp. The spoiler and painted reflectors go a long ways in improving the look.

Just curious - why did you ditch the XDrive badge?

Thanks! I am digging the new look. I ditched the Xdrive badge just because I don't like the look of it. It wasn't for any sinister reason of trying to fool people into believing that I have a RWD or anything.

It’s not the clear coat they don’t use different clear coats for different colors , it’s obviously the way red reacts to Uv if the car is garage kept won’t be a issue
