Specific Liqui Moly oil for M340i

Curious on opinions here. Using the FCP oil change kits for life, near Seoul, SK. Definitely get some winters, nothing insane though. Running a '23 M340i, ordered the 5w-30 special tec LL

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...11428583898-lm

I noticed they have kits for 5w-40 Leichlauf High Tech and Molygen, along with 0w-20. I'm not expecting huge differences between xw-30 and xw-40 but I'm curious if there are any major reasons (additives etc) to switch to a different oil in those kits. Personal experience is great too

Thanks

I run the 5/30 LiquiMoly kit from FCP, I don't have a reason weather wise to go with anything heavier and I don't see the need to run 0 weight for efficiency. IMO 5 is the happy middle ground.

My thought process was similar, especially with it being somewhat cold here. Didn't see the need for green oil either, short of the titanium? I believe it has.

Thanks

I believe the difference is the rating it has. LL FE17 and LL01 shears at different points. People have been saying that its healthier for the engine to run LL01 oils and which is why FCP recommends the oils that aren't FE17/FE14. I believe LL FE17 was also designed to combat LSPI and mainly to meet CAFE or emissions requirements.

Thicker oils will impact MPG and there may be a barely perceptible delay in throttle response.

BMW oil certification are in part driven by HTHS and compliance with emissions systems such as DPF and OPF. The B-series can run them all except for LL98(discontinued).

Here's a link for the various specifications.

https://www.oilspecifications.org/bmw.php

Note: Vehicles with B-series engines were certified for sale in the US on 0w20 so BMW will not officially recommend a different viscosity.
