Driving A 900bhp BMW M8 Competition Tuned By Steve Dinan [Top Gear]

Quote:
Steve Dinan is one of America’s most legendary tuners, having established himself as a builder of ridiculously fast and reliable BMWs. He’s since sold his company, did a stint with an endurance team, and is now back with CarBahn Autoworks. Steve brings his 900bhp BMW M8 down to Rob’s shop and gives him a chance to experience how to gain big power without losing reliability and comfort.

Great share! I'm thinking when I'm ready to start my mods I will be connecting with them, only issue is I have zero installers here in AZ so I will have to send it out to the CA location.

Yeah, but does his car have B&W? anyways enough shots at that.

Question of the day…how much $ to achieve 900 HP. Quick look at his website and it’s a pretty penny, but less than I expected.

About 11k in parts.... Dunno what labor cost. I'm debating if I want to tackled some stuff myself or send it to them to farm it all out.... Anyway I probably won't do it till around 5k miles but I've been known to jump that gun before.

Oh and yes I have B&W

Didn't say much in the video.

I think just the piggyback, but he’s got a stage 2 unit where he’s strongly recommending the intercooler and exchanger on the intake. He says stage 2 only installed by a CarBahn dealer. Maybe stage 2 is a flash?

I think Stage 1 is the piggyback, Stage 2 is the intercooler and/or heat exchanger.

I don't think BMW will open up their DME encryption to particular parties.
Otherwise, it will be just a matter of dollar amount and at the end of the day will be leaked and hard to regain control.

That's what I thought.
Intrigued to know more.
Gotta reach out to them and see if I can be their reseller/installer.

900 hp lmfao. Those of us who have spent a lot of time on the dyno (I used an AWD Mustang which made exactly 600 crank stock) with these know the limits of the fuel system. Sorry but tuned on California 91 these will make 650 crank and on race gas around 750 crank before fuel drops start happening. Still good for high 9's low 10's which is really fun.

Maybe his results were from a juiced dyno, which js another form of false advertising.

Not only a bs dyno with fake high numbers but they probably also calculate in a drivetrain loss of 20-25% to get to that 900 number.

Yeah 900 would be capable of mid 9's at 145 mph. Lets see a dragy of a 145 trap and then I'll believe. Heck show me a 140 trap Dinan and I will be impressed.

The steering on the M8 is crap unfortunately. Handles well for a heavy car but wow this thing would eat through tires and brakes quickly at a track.

I think to the crank not wheel, mine says 800 while I'm sure my maximum is 700-730 to wheel

Dinan is famous for this. There is a smoking tire one take where a guy with a dinan m2c claims 600hp. Just nah.

I like Dinan parts. Never had an issue with them. But some of the claims are... Well. Eyebrow raising.

For real. Wish all these companies would stop posting all this bill shit info. Do a draggy or some type of 60-130. That shit tells the story. Not your crooked dyno numbers.
