Which factory brand and model tires did you get and how do you like them?

Which factory brand and model tires did you get and how do you like them?

i.e 19s or 20s, all-season or summer and whether run flat or not?

19"
Pirelli
Cinturato
P7 All-Season
Run Flat

Bubbled one of them in less that 3500 miles and we're careful with our vehicles.

Aside from that, they're decent tires. We've tracked them a couple times already and they're quiet on the highway.

19" Goodyear all-season run flats. Bubbled 2 of them at under 5K and another 2 at 17K. Dealer says they're the most susceptible to bubbling and is recommending a switch to Pirellis or Continentals.

Michelin BMW Star Marked Pilot Super Sports Summer Max Performance Non Run Flats. Best riding tires I have ever had on a car.

On a side note, plenty of OEM tire options in stock at Tire Rack, including these as well as the PS4S's. Another good reason to stick with OEM wheel and tire sizes. Pretty tough to find custom size tires these days such as 21"'s.

I wanted all-season tires since I live in Minnesota and took delivery of the car in December. I wanted 19s for the larger sidewall and the only option was run-flats. My car came with Continentals 245/40r19 front and 275/35r19 rear.

Before picking up the car, I was prepared to hate the run-flat tires and had every intention of replacing them with about any other brand of all-season non run-flats. However, after driving the car, I was pleasantly surprised by the nice ride and extremely quiet ride. I really cannot justify replacing them.

I would still like to test drive an M550 with 19 inch non run-flats for comparison but I am satisfied with the Continentals for now.

My 2022 M550 has Michelin Pilot Sport 4 ZP's. The car has the 19" staggered setup. These tires perform better than the 19" Michelin Primacy 3's on my 2017 540.

Also ordered the spare tire so I can put on non run flats when the 4zp's wear out.

I echo the Continental's. I was planning on getting rid of the Continental's as soon as I could and replace them with the Michelin's; not anymore. I plan on replacing them with another set of Continental's when this set wears-out.

I tried Pilot Super Sport non-ROF's on our 2014 535-M-Sport; hated them. They felt squishy and too soft. I went back to the factory Primacy ROF's.

I ordered the non-runflat option with 20” 668M wheels and my car came with Bridgestone Potenza S007 summer tires. These tires ride great. They are super soft and sticky, so sticky they pick up everything, though.

Literally, 140 miles into my 300-mile drive home from delivery, I unavoidably hit a pothole and bubbled the left front tire. I had to spend $450 to replace it the next day.

I am not unhappy with the Bridgestone’s, but if I get more than 10k miles out of them, I will be shocked. At that point I will likely replace them with Michelin non-runflats.

As much as I am a fan of Michelin, don't expect too many more miles out of them than your Bridgestone's. It's the trade off between sticky soft summer softies and lifecycle. They wear fast, but man do they perform.

Do you know if they come as RFT from factory as well? I think I might have seen them... not a 100% sure but it was either potenza or turanza...but i think it said s007.. Also, did your car come equipped with a spare tire then?

actually on second thought, it might be T005 Turanza 19s, which looks like a Grand Touring Summer Tire RFT...

I believe this is the current list of tires used for 20” wheels for the M550i from the factory:

Run-flat
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 summer
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 summer
Pirelli Pzero PZ4 summer
Michelin Pilot Sport 3 summer
Bridgestone RE050A summer
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT summer

Non-Run-Flat

Bridgestone Potenza S007 summer
Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer

Ordering the non-run-flat tire option with the 668M wheels requires the spare tire. The spare and the raised platform used to cover it do take up trunk space, especially if you are using suitcases for a trip. There is a considerable loss in height/depth. The good thing is the spare tire, the platform and foam inserts can easily be removed in minutes, no tools required. The floor panel will fit back in the trunk to be exactly like the run-flat version.

These are photos of my trunk with the spare:

I bubbled and replaced all 4 in the first 11k miles on my '21 540xi. Thankfully I had tire warranty that covered the costs.
They handle ok, but those 4 sidewall bubbles are more than I have had in my entire life, before this car. I had Michelin PS4s Summer and Pirelli Sottozorro's in the Winter, on my M5 and M6, and once I get my next bubble on the Pirelli's, I will replace them with Michelin PS4s.

Danny

The new Michelin PS5 tire is getting rave reviews. It has tech built into it to perform as good or better than the PS4S and be longer lasting.

I'm going to show more of my ignorance, but I may as well ask…

What's the determining factor between getting "summer" tires and all season tires? Are summer tires significantly worse in the rain? What are the pros to getting a summer tire vs an all season tire?

Mine came with Contis ProContact GX runflats. 245/40/19. So far so good (4500 miles). I would've normally switched them for dws06es, but I think I'm going to stick with these this time around, partially because I bought rim and tire insurance and partially for convenience of not getting stranded somewhere

All-seasons will give some light snow capabilities, summer will have NONE. Summer also get very slick (the rubber gets very hard) below about 40ishºF. Been there, done that and had limited traction. Summer's don't last as long as all-seasons as they're softer.

Pretty much the difference is you should not drive on summer tires below 40 degrees. If you were to drive on them in the teens, they would turn hard like Tonka truck tires and are extremely dangerous. Hence the name "summer".

It goes without saying they won't move in snow. They are excellent in rain.

Thanks for the answers. We don't get much real winter down here, but sounds like we get enough to need all season tires on a daily driver. Not enough to justify two sets of tires either.

also, the difference is that you have a speed limiter at 155 if you get the performance tires from factory and 130 if you get the all-seasons for the m550i. at least something like that. =)

Did you read the reviews? Pretty lousy, IMHO. It also says not for winter driving.

Looks to me that a grand-touring summer tire is a higher mileage, summer tire.
