How long until indivudual options become available?

I'm readying myself to order the i4M50, but one of the things I'd like to have is Merino leather, which is not available for ordering right now.

After talking to my sales rep, he told me he didn't really know when BMW individual options would become available for the car. I believe my sales rep, but I find it very strange when it is available for the 3 and 4 series ICE cars.

Does anybody have any idea of how long does it typically take for individual options to become available for ordering?

I wonder if they have never allowed for the I models to be individual. I'd like a different paint color and originally ordered an M3 with an individual color. The chip shortage made the car take too long to start and I was able to cancel that order and preorder the im50 instead.

I'm hoping when I get the option to configure, I'll be able to do individual colors and options at that time

I was told by BMW that Individual for the i4 would be available by mid next year. I’m also considering an Individual Manufaktur i4, most probably a MY2023 as it will take that long for Individual to deliver it.

The i3 and the i8 were manufactured in Leipzig, there are no Individual options in this plant. The i4 plant is in Munich - all cars produced in Munich offer Individual options.

What does this mean in practical terms? Let's say I order the car in November, I get production/delivery in Q3/2022, would I be able to change the spec then if BMW individual starts production in May/June, or I would have to wait for it to be available at the moment I place the initial order?

I was told that if I order today, delivery would very likelt be in Q2. If I order by launch date, it'll likely be in Q3 if not later.

You may want to wait until Individual is available so your production date is adjusted for the option - Individual may add 4-6 weeks to production. If you order without Individual your car will be produced much quicker and you will not have any chance to change your build.

Yeah exactly. Talk to your dealer, see what they recommend.

Anyone know if merino is available to order in the US? Thought I had read beginning in March but not sure if anyone has had success already putting into their order.

The configurators are not always updated. Merino is not yet available in the norwegian one. I was able to order full merino through my dealer 4 weeks ago. My week 11 production got delayed by two weeks to week 13 due to that change. But last week my order got changed to status 150 "production started" so it is being built as we speak. I cant follow it like the US customers without calling my dealer sadly. Expecting production to take 1-2 weeks. I wont bother him until next week and hope for the best. 😄

Your dealer should have the Merino configurations in their system now, and the updated Ordering Guide should be published soon.

Any idea of the option codes/pricing for the new additions? I’m hunting the Merino full leather and leather dash options for reference.

Cheers!

I'd like to know also.
I know we get Sensatec dash as standard but I would like leather.

Can we now add the leather dash in US?

My SA tried to add the Merino option, but the system wouldn’t let him. He also wasn’t able to find the leather dash option…. I’m guessing the options haven’t been fully enabled yet in the order system.

That could be the case in the US. Here in Norway I managed to fully configure the car today.

As for the codes...

For the full leather:

Ivory White (VBEW) / Fjord Blue (ZBFV) / Black (ZBSW) / Fiona Red (VBHZ) / Tartufo (VBTQ)

For leather seats:

Ivory White (VAEW) / Fjord Blue (ZAFV) / Black (ZASW) / Fiona Red (VAHZ) / Tartufo (VATQ)

For sensatec on the instrument panel: (4AW)

Do we get the M seatbelts here in the U.S. (on the M50) or no?
