Dealer wheel & tire warranty - worth it?
Hey all,
I'm getting close to the time where I'll need to sit down and fill out paperwork on my incoming M3C. I know BMW offers a wheel and tire warranty and wondered everyone's thoughts on purchasing this. So couple questions: What does it cover and not cover (such as does it cover accidentally curb rash, nail in tire, etc). Overall do you think it's worth it? Thanks!

Sure I could crack a rim tomorrow. Even 2 rims. I'm still ahead and can afford to replace both. The dealer will tell your horror stories and most are true. But for the vast majority it's not worth the cost in the long run. |

I think I might have just talked myself into the warranty.

Funny thing happened to me with my commuter. 2021 Accord Touring. I was pulling into the Laserwash, about a month after I bought the car, and I was trying to pull close to the keypad, so I could just reach out the window, and pay, Cuuuuuurrrrrbbbbb!!! FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.... $509 for wheel and tire extended, $558 for wheel, CNA Warranty asked no questions, recommendation, Replace Wheel. $44 labor. $45 tax. paid for itself, and I never buy this crap. Windshield, same thing. paid $39K for the car in Feb, and 3 days ago SMACK!! Dead center in my drivers view, a crack with like 6 stars. $600 windshield coverage, $1400 windshield. Stupid HUD windshield. My M4 will be my 30th car in 29 years, and I've never bought this crap, but in this case, both have paid for themselves, inside of 6 months. I've bought like 9 cars from my best friend, he's a finance director for a dealer, and he always makes his cut on his end, and I don't mind having the extra coverage. I got the car for $1,200 under invoice.

^ Ha, sounds like luck is about as good as mine is. I've been lucky though in the last couple of years with windshield chips and cracks.
I remember years ago I had just bought a brand new VW GTI Drivers Edition (I really regret ever selling it). About a week into ownership I get a massive chip in the windshield, right in my line of sight. So get that taken care of. About a month later someone in a pickup rear ends me and completely crushes the back of the car. I remember having to go back to the body shop several times to get things right. Good times. Not so much. But things can always be worse.

I was offered it a dealer and said no; it was something like 2500. I got a flat @35 miles. New tire was 500 dollars
I then went and called AAA, who sold me the same warranty for 1k. I never got this type of coverage before, but on this car, with the tires being so low profile and the rims being so expensive, after my mishap I went for it. I doubt I'll end up needing it at this point but it makes me feel better for sure. Shop around as you may get a better deal elsewhere. |

I declined it.
If you need a new tire for $500 you can buy it from Tire rack with Hazard protection included so if you have another Tire issue in the next two years it is replaced for free. That seems like a great option rather than being over insured Obviously that doesn't cover the rim of you curb it or crack it I'd rather keep the money and pay out of pocket if it happens. Even if I need a new rim and Tire once I'm still ahead and the likelihood of it happening twice is quite unlikely with the miles I do |

I dont get it on my cars. My wife got it on the last two Lexus leases. Never used it. $2500 is a bit step. I bet if you really wanted it you could negotiate the price. I work at a dealership and can get a Tire/Wheel warranty for like $600-$800. Thats what my buddy does on all His Bimmers. He buys it from work and then just brings it to BMW for claims. He is constantly blowing wheels n tires out on his previous cars and now his 850i msport.

I never buy these warranties. I understand that the roads in NJ are maybe not as good as other states, so that may be a consideration. These warranties generally say "fix or replace" wheel, so I assume that they will refinish it for curbing, unless you really booger it up.
It's cheaper for me to just pay as I go. Now... if the wife was driving my car, that would be a different story. We bought her car new in March, I believe, and she's already curbed two wheels. I didn't buy the warranty then either because a) too expensive and b) she promised to be careful. LOL

lol, so what I got from this thread, warranty is not worth it, unless your wife drives it and "wives" are typically bad drivers. I guess it's good that we do not have many females on this forum
So they should sell it as "Wife Driver Protection" rather than "Wheels & Tires Protection", the dealer probably would make more money with this program |

I opted for it.. I do not recall the price point exact, but think it was closer to the ~1Kish +- option back in April.
I have used it twice already and going back a 3rd time this week for framing/roofing nails as I sell new home construction for a living. Should be just now cresting paying for itself ~4 months in on tires alone. My take away - this is user specific if needed. |

I got the windshield and wheel and tire on my last car. 2021 which I bought in February, new. I curbed the rim and it was $588, not including labor. I paid $511 for the package. I paid $623 for the windshield replacement package. I just got the windshield replaced, yesterday, $1,717.60. Both have already paid for themselves. And after 30 cars, Ive never bought either of these options.

Paid $1500 for warranty on my f30 in 2012 and ended up replacing 20 of the shitty run flat tires over the next 5 years. So money well spent in that case but after swapping to non run flats have not had an issue in the last 4. NJ roads are crap but the bigger issue was the crappy run-flats. Not an issue on the M cars so probably will decline coverage.

I ended up getting the package for 7 years (there was only a $200 difference between 5 years and 7 years) and I plan on keeping this car for a long time. Its just peace-of-mind having it for me after thinking about it more. My wife will be driving the car occasionally and its good to know that if accidental curbage does take place, it'll be fixed with no questions asked. I also have the benefit of being able to get a loaner from the dealer when the wheel is being fixed which is another big plus.

I curbed the hell out of the passenger side rear wheel over the weekend backing out of our driveway and almost lost my mind. We have Belgium block around the edges and I trying to back out around my wife's car and I heard the scraping that no one ever wants to hear. Its really bad.
But, I have the warranty and have an appt for Friday to have it fixed. So already the package is paying for itself.

I ended up getting it for peace of mind. Covers unlimited cosmetic damage, so I won't be bummed once me or a family member who drives it gets a nasty curb rash, which inevitably always happens to all my cars.
I would say it's worth it, if it's your daily and don't want to worry about repair costs in a worst case scenario.
