I was yesterday at bmw for oil change and filters and the dealer told me it is a software update for M2C and it does it ... updating on all modules.
The " visible" results are: the engine run more round, the gearbox shifting smoothly...... But the steering is fucked.......the element that liked everyone because it was hard and precise and gave a sense of stability and safety at high speeds ... now it became soft, playful and unstable. If before the update there was a big difference between the comfort, sport and sport plus steering wheel settings, now all are almost the same ... waste ... the direction is so soft that the car dances. To be avoided! |

What istep did you get on the update? Looks like you took photo of insta+ so you can grab it from there or you can export to usb your drivers profile and open the file as it is xml and it will show you the istep version.

the update is made by bmw service through obd and I'm afraid you can not choose which modules to update. I took the picture to see what modules are updating. the changes are ok on the engine and gearbox but the disaster in steering |

I think I know what you're talking about, as I just picked up my car and I believe we have the same software. Engine and shifting is better for sure, but I don't think steering is worse... In comfort it is really soft, like very floaty but still very accurate, and switch to sport and there is a BIG difference for me. I think the sport steering now is close to perfect, not too hard and not too soft, very natural returning to the center. I had the 18 M2 before and that steering was just plain heavy and numb in all modes. I much prefer this. Others please chime in?

I heard some complaints that the most aggressive shift setting wasn't as aggressive as the m3/4 does this make the shift harder or just smoother?

No changes in power, but mostly OPF emissions related and tuner protection.. still investigating the new ROM as we speak.

From what I realize after reading your posts is that the bmw did not make any changes to the steering settings, but something just did not work well with resofting my car. At this point, if I change the steering settings, the on-board display changes from Comfort to Sport and Sport Plus, but in fact the steering acts as if it were Comfort. Is there a simple and quick version that I can do to reinitialize the steering or solution is back to dealer and resoft? |

Im a true believer of if its not broke dont fix it.
Not sure why people want the latest update when there is nothing wrong or no reason why a update is needed.

Correct, still waiting for more info. But I’m in contacts with a reputable tuner and they have a car that was updated to latest DME firmware with a new boot loader. Attempting to downgrade the boot loader to one that can OBD unlocks caused issues programming. DME wouldn’t take any flash and threw warnings. I’m no reverse engineer so I can’t tell you what has changed on the bootloade side , but I can safely say there are no significant changes to the CAL that directly affects performance. In fact the new ROM version is a minor patch to where all the addresses in the CAL line up to the old one for S55 M2C / newer S55’s |

I would definitely go back to the dealer. But what software did you have before this? Is it the M2C software that came from the factory? I'm gonna get break in service done soon and I'm wondering if this update is mandatory?

Don't forget that a software update resets all adaptive settings. Every BMW I have owned (many many), have felt different after a full software update.

Can't say it was bad, actually really enjoyed the ride I'm also an ex owner of the OG M2 and its steering was without doubt much much heavier I much prefer the steering on the M2C. I'd compare it to how the M240i felt, so a lot more comfortable for daily driving! Fingers crossed I actually have the update though. Any word on when this update was released? Picked up my car around two weeks ago |

Clutch wear in is a serious thing on 8AT, GHAS, DCT, etc. Adaptations are not reset for this, but driving cycle adaptations may be reset so car behavior would be different ( emissions ) I Figure for OPF cars this is even more drastic due to the necessary cycles it needs to handle soot contamination as well as "refresh" of the OPF, along with diagnostics checks. Fun fact, unlike doing a SW update manually via ESYS, BMW ISTA+ actually backups & restores driver profiles when done according to test plan. Which is why you don't lose your iDrive profiles and seat settings unless it's a significant update or modules related to that are replaced. I assume some of the adaptations are kept too.

Mine will be serviced by independent garage and they won't do any updates. I had run in at BMW in Dec that will be the last time it goes near BMW! |
