BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe (G16) Spied!

BIMMERPOST NEWS
BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe Prototype Spied For First Time
101
COMMENTS

Summary:

We've seen the 8 Series in Gran Coupe form as the M8 Gran Coupe Concept and in patent drawings, but here's the first looks at the actual 8 Series Gran Coupe (G16) prototype, in M Sport / M850i form.

As the 8 Series Coupe is shorter in length and wheelbase while also being wider and lower than the 6 Series Coupe it replaces, we also expect that the 8 Series Gran Coupe will compare the same to the 6 Series Gran Coupe.

The 8 Series Gran Coupe (G16) will arrive in 2019 as a 2020 model in the U.S. The U.S. will see an 840i, 840i xDrive and M850i xDrive (with 530hp). Europe will also receive an 840d model.

The M850i xDrive model will be powered by the N63TÜ3 engine - a twin turbo V8 outputting 530hp.

If it has more than 2 doors, it ain't a coupe! Definitely like the 2 door counterpart better.

Looks great, glad to see it retained a similar rear end (especially the large spoiler) to the concept, I'm surprised BMW is moving so fast on testing this car, I didn't expect to see the real thing this soon.

the car on the truck isn't an M Sport or an M850, it's the "regular" version of the car. Curious to see how that looks without the camo, as the patent drawings for the non M Sport front bumper were actually more similar to the 8-Series Concept than the production M Sport front bumper.

That's the standard front for the European market 840d. The US only gets the M850i. With M Packet.

Coupe is french for Cut. Which refers to the cut down roof. Not the amount of doors. No amount of complaining will change that

Looks great. Though some of my friends have not liked the 8 series so far, I really love it

I however still think that the 6GC has a more athletic classy look- just timeless

Uh. Not really. It's about the lack of rear seating. It's a holdover from two-seat horse drawn carriage. The "cut" has to do with the loss of seats. In any case the keyword is "Gran/Grande". This allows manufactures to designate a new model w/out running afoul of tge official definition.

smaller than the 6 series it replaces yet itll be 40k more in price. gotta love that ///Marketing

It has a tough shoe to fill as the 6gc in msport trim was a great looking car

cant wait to see how much these depreciate used after their corporate leases are over.

Are they effing serious?

Now that they have a GC for all the even numbers, i suppose they'll start building "2-door sedan" versions for the 3, 5 and 7 series.

Where is the Hofmeister kink? I feel as if BMW's window lines lately have been missing the kink, like on the F48, F47, G01, G02, G05, F16, F07, etc.

Too much overhang in the front, like a Buick.
