530e Max Performance Mode - Help

Hi All,

So I just picked up my 530e and am still playing around with the multitude of options & settings for A) The Most Economical Mode and B) The MAX performance mode. I am struggling with the latter and am not convinced that the battery and engine are working together to produce the best performance.

This is what I THINK are the correct settings for maximum output but would like other 530e owners to validate :

- Auto E-Drive
- SPORT MODE
- TRACTION OFF (As much as Poss)
- Flick gear lever to the left
- At Least 50% battery power remaining

So when I plant the accelerator it seems to have 2 modes. When you 'think' you have floored it you then need to press it much harder and you can feel a second kind of clunk - is that Kick-Down? And should it feel slightly clunky when engaging? I could be wrong but I suspect that you are not getting full power of both the petrol and electric engine unless you are in that kick-down mode.

Sorry if this is all basic knowledge but would appreciate anyone elses take on this theory. Cheers!

I would say the car gives you max power every time you floor the accelerator, i.e. kickdown.

@lnaukkar - Is it normal to feel that extra click/notch in the accelerator pedal as you plant hard for Kick-Down? I hadnt realised that you literally have to shove your foot down and presumed that I had been flat out so far. In reality that was just the petrol engine and not the additional combo of the battery engine.

I think every BMW has got the click at the end of the acceleration pedal, thats not a "530e thing"

That click is kickdown. Otherwise you just get full throttle, but with the click you are also forcing transmission to choose the optimal gear for full on acceleration.

Thanks - so the outstanding question remains , do you get the benefit of electric AND petrol power on full throttle or just on kickdown? ....

Of course you should get full electric + petrol without kickdown.

You can verify using the power display (shows you the power and torque output) or edrive status display (shows you whether car uses petrol, electric or both).

I have programmed one of my memory buttons to bring up the edrive status display.
