Anyone go from a 3 to a 5 series?
Hi
I am loving the look of new 5 series - was going to hold out for the redesigned 3 (2019) but not so sure now. Given my car is a 2007 I'm not keen on waiting that long. For the most part I'll be in the car by myself - so size wise its definitely overkill. Parking is tough enough in downtown Toronto and the added 12 inches won't help. I also like the way a 3 handles and not sure how nimble the 5 would be. Put another way if the redesigned 3 was out I'd get that but can't bring myself to buy one prior to the redesign so looking at alternatives. As you can tell I tend to keep my cars for a while. Just curious as to your thoughts on going with a 5. Cheers Dean |

I was in the same situation, don't need a bigger car or car to have one, I test drove the 3 and the 5 back to back and the 5 just blew me away. Inside outside everything was just better to me.

I'm turning in my 2014 335i xDrive for a 2018 M550i xDrive. I don't need a big car either and prefers how nimble the 3 handles. However the interior quality and tech are night and day different. I was considering M3 comp pack but felt the inside is too similar to my current car.

Had F31 335d. Liked it a lot and was planning to keep it about 7 years to 100000+ miles as two previous series 3's. But long tempted by talk of greater refinement of series 5, and especially the G30.
So now have G30 530dx. Despite its size, not because of it. It certainly delivers that extra refinement. Will be great for long trips, as across Spain and Portugal shortly. I prefer its cornering feel to my my F31 with ACS springs. But I do have the expensive Adaptive Drive set up which keeps it nice and flat. But I cannot comment on how handling would be without the Adaptive Drive or how this set up compares with that on the previous 5's. |

I went from an F30 328i to an F10 528i. Like others here I prefer the much higher interior quality of the 5-series even if I do not need the space. Ideally I would like to return to a 3-series that has an interior on par with the G30, but I do not expect the new 3-series before my current lease is up in 8/18 and there is no guarantee that BMW will step up to the standard set by the C-Class and A4 for compact luxury sedan interiors.
This has me considering the A5 Sportback, which is the perfect size for me and has a beautiful interior. Or I will just stick with the 530i, since a $65k 530i will likely be cheaper to lease than a $55k A5. |

Hi there am going from e91.
I loved that car but it wasn't equipped so well and was bought as 7y old car.. e91, 320i, no nav, no seat heating etc.. only Mpacket and Hifi speaker system. I live in city co the comfort was really bad. I wanted bigger change than more modern 3er.. I have tried some new 3er and they felt like "more modern 3" which I had so I ordered 4er GC for more special feeling.. but "thanks to" 4er FL release in Feb so delay of delivery for me I've changed my mind, canceled 4er and went for 5er.. The 5er was much much more comfortable during test drive, much more luxury feeling and handling is similar to 3 but u sit higher and ofc in bigger car - which is better for me, dunno why because I really loved sitting in 3er Mpacket but the 5er is really gorgeous. That's change which is big step forward for me because from 3er to 3er it wasn't so big.. to 4er it was special but still same interior.. G30 interior is really insane.. The change was about 8-10kEUR more but I think its worth. |

I had a 330d f31. The refinement of the 5 is superior without a doubt. But I imagine it won't feel as agile.

Tomato tomato. The point is the 330 is a larger engine and the 530 is smaller.

I went from a 435 GC to a 540 recently. I miss my 435 GC due to the sporty look and feel but not the crapness. I drives very good just glides was the 435 you feel the road more I though probably its lower to the ground. Now regarding finishes the 435 sunroof didn't have electronic sunshade as the 540. There was no dual climate in the 435 and allot more plastic which the 5 is more refined. Hope that helps
