Why do I see BMW trunks open randomly?
Third time this week. I have noticed two Bimmers. One a 5, the other a 7. When they get here in the AM, their trunks are closed. And then halfway through the day, I look out and see that their trunks are open.
I realize there is a possibility the trunk was opened from inside the building (via remote) But could this be a malfunction that could just happen randomly? Its raining right now, with someones trunk open, and I sure wouldnt want that to happen with my new 3!

I've remember reading some threads long ago about windows lowering by themselves, but not the trunk. This has never happened with my car BTW and I have no comfort access. Another thing to keep in mind is that the 5 and 7 have a different trunk mechanism, where the trunk fully opens up, while on the 3, you still need to physically pull the trunk up. So it can be a mechanical hydrolic issue as well. |

ha ha good one.
Even though I suspect it is the confort access or remote-in-the-pants issue, not a flaw.

This has happened to me a few times, but under specific circumstances. I have CA, and when I get into my car, sometimes the button on the fob is actuated in my pocket (pants too tight, or...???). It sucks because I usually start backing out and see the dash light come on, and have to jump out and close the trunk.
If the owners of the cars have a desk/office near the car, perhaps they are actuating the button on their fob in the same way? Other than that, I haven't a clue.

sounds strange but it's happened to me and it was because I put the keyfob back in my pocket and somehow it pressed up against my money clip on the trunk release button. See how far you can do this...quite a distance. I think it's a matter of accidentally pushing the button rather than a malfunction.

That crap happens to me on a daily basis in my bimmer and if you're in the Infiniti and your phone goes off when the car is turned off it's a 50/50 shot the windows will roll themselves down.

Annoyingly, this happens to me every so many months... And is generally accompanied with all the windows and sunroof being open. One of very few real annoyances I have with my car.

The poltergeist option (ZPP).
(I bought the leather key fobs because I could see this happening.)

This happened to my friend when he was over New Year's Eve with his new 535xi....he was ...
On occasion he would also go out and see his windows down...I knew exactly what the problem was.

I fixed my random-trunk-opening issues by rearranging my keyring.

I've had (and sometimes still have) a problem where my trunk will open randomly, and when trying to close it the lock in trunk won't engage. I'd have to slam the trunk closed a couple of times until it'll engage, I should get that fixed lol...
