Surprisingly, I had some good experience with Glenville Terrace Auto Body in Allston.
However, BMW work, I would go to Frank @ Dick's Auto Body.

Is there a semi-competent body shop around here? Looks like I'll be trading this into the dealer and have to pay for the difference between trade and buyout. No one seems to want a fairly loaded 335xi E90.....

Their shop looked really sketchy when they showed me around the shop and I heard mixed things about them. Another Korean guy that I know, who own a CLK55 AMG, took his car there and they did a good job on it, but then another person brought his car in and it took months to get it fixed. So I'm a little apprehensive about their work.

There are two of them. One guy's name is Dan then other one I forgot, he went by J Lee. Dan loved them and J Lee wanted nothing to do with them again.

Incident #1 in May of 2006: Chambers in Somerville screwed up my steering wheel after service, which caused me to scrape the passenger side skirt and door. Took it back to Chambers in Somerville and they fixed the steering wheel and shipped my car to Braintree for body work. It took them 8 weeks to fix the car and the clear coat started peeling in less than a year. Incident #2 in March of 2007 My car was rear ended on Rte 20 close to Wayland. To add insult to injury, the front bumper was yanked half off by the flat bed truck's winch. Of course Mercedes Roadside contacted Chambers and hauled it off to their infamous Braintree body shop again. This time, it took them 72 days to fix the car and they almost repainted the entire car. However, the job is really bad that some of the lines of the car don't line up right. There were numerous spots where dirt was left underneath the paint. The peeling clear coat from the last incident was not fixed even though it's still under warranty from the shop. They even outsourced the exhaust job to the Shell gas station across the street (they actually did the best job on the car, the exhaust lined up like it should). At pick up, the badges on the car were completely messed up. It was missing E55 on the trunk, the AMG is crooked, and the fender badges read "Kompressor" instead of "V8 Kompressor". Also, they were stupid enough to have mounted the wrong size of tire on my car (the rims are staggered and they installed a front rim size tire in the back). This is as incompetent as a body shop can get. While this was happening, I was in a rental car from the Enterprise located in Somerville. They kept on harassing me and forced me to pay for the rental out of my own pocket because the insurance company refused to pay them since the car was taking so long to fix. The manager even had the balls to call and threaten me by saying "if you want to play games, we will play games with you!" I had to ask to my attorney to send the manager a personal nastiogram to shut him from farting..... It took me almost a full year before I was able to recover the rental charges from the insurance company.

I also refuse to do anymore business with Herb Chambers. For body work on my car I was referred to Greystone Auto Center by a friend in North Rhode Island. I've had a lot of work done there and I think I'll be back there again soon to do my new rear bumper soon. If you want details, PM me.

Herb Chambers BMW's sales department is one of the worst that I have ever dealt with. When the M6 first came out, I pulled up in my E55 and went to take a look at it and no one walked up to me while I was checking the car out (a good 30-40 minutes) to offer any help (not even unlocking the car so that I can get a feel of the interior). Next time my wife wanted to look at the E91 325xi and the sales guy we talked to was a total joke as well, no negotiation from MSRP. I took my business else where (Peabody), and they treated me right. I love my CA and SA at Peabody.

I agree 100% with Kev.... (Boston must be way too small)
1) Perfection Autobody is crap. back in my undergraduate days of BU (circa 1998), I took my MB c36 to have my front bumper replaced - it took Perfection 3 full months to replace my oem c36 bumper. When I got it back, the clear coat rotted away in about 8 months.. Furthermore, because they took so long, I almost got stuck with an Enterprise rental car bill that was almost $4,000... Luckily my insurance company was able to successfully get the rental costs reimbursed by the person that backed into me. So they sucked ten years ago, and they still apparently suck. 2) Herb Chambers also sucks - (both BMW Comm. Ave and MB Somerville) - Their sales guys 'profile' customers and end up treating you like garbage, besides the fact that they don't move off of MSRP. I spent 3 hours in there, and they wouldnt move a dime off of a bare bones e91 they had on the lot.. Finally, the next day, I went with the wife to Norwood, and they located an e91 exactly how I wanted it, and they moved aggressively on the price, on top of that, they treated me like a human being.

Herb Chambers sucks big hairy donkey balls.
I paid $400 for just diagnosing my adaptive headlight cause it was malfunctioning after an accident. I was going to dispute my bill, but then I was like f*ck it and paid that shit. Never going back there to do any kind of business. |
