Absolutely love the lines of this car. A true bmw once again. Can't wait to see the final product.

Uh. Not really. It's about the lack of rear seating. It's a holdover from two-seat horse drawn carriage. The "cut" has to do with the loss of seats. In any case the keyword is "Gran/Grande". This allows manufactures to designate a new model w/out running afoul of tge official definition.
You knew this off the top of your head?

As much as I hated the new 8 coupe, I think longer sedan form for this car will be a good thing. I might buy one when it deprecated....

I want to ask what else is in that price range in the class before I'd consider it.
Now that they presenting the test car in sedan form, I think this is great and what 8 series just should be. The sedan seems to look better with all those lines and in that size....

1. The GC is longer than the coupe form.
2. The coupe form is shorter than the old 6.

:
Based on the F10/F06 (5 series, 6 GC) M5/M6 experience:

- The wheelbase of the F10 and F06 M5/M6 were EXACTLY the same

- The performance figures for the M5 and M6 GC were materially the same

- The 8 series coupe and M8 Coupe will likely have a shorter wheelbase than the F90, likely about 2 inches longer than the G M3.

- The 8 series is simply a rebranding of the 6 series. So the 8 GC is a replacement for the 6 GC, and 8 coupe for the 6 coupe. There will be no 6 GC going forward. There will be no M6 going forward. 6 Series cars will be a GT model going forward.

- Expect the M8 Coupe to have marginally better performance figures than the M8 GC and F90 M5 just like how the F12 M6 was marginally better than the F06 M6 and F10 M5.

-Based on all these known factors, it's safe to assume:

1. The M8 GC will have the EXACT performance specs as the F90 M5
2. The M8 GC will have the EXACT wheelbase as the F90 M5
3. The "leg room" will be materially the same, but the head room and interior width will differ due to the GC profile.

The F12/13 M6 had a 2851mm wheelbase with the F10 M5 and F06 M6 having a 2964mm wheelbase - 113mm shorter.

The G15 M850xi has a 2822mm wheelbase and the F90 M5 is 2982mm, so if the Gran Coupe is the same then we are looking at a 160mm wheelbase difference, quite a bit up from the previous model difference as a percentage.

They always bait people with these new Mx35i/40i/50i. I don't know why they do that stupid structure except for the fact that people really, really crave the M badge for vanity reasons. Just call it 850i with "M-Sport" package, no M badge - it's so silly. The M8 will come a year or two after it anyway and make it irrelevant.

Because Audi makes S and RS models and Mercedes has AMG 43/53 models under the 63's. BMW adding the M Performance line tells consumers they're competitors. It might just be marketing, but selling an M340 sounds better than "just a regular 340" against the Audi S4 and Mercedes AMG C43

Looks nice and all, but the rear is a bit too "fastback" styled compared to the M6GC. That car had a more flowing and chiseled rear 3/4, this one slopes too much into the decklid ala 4 series.

So now that the Z4, 3-series, and X7 are near launch and the 8er coupe and GC aren't far behind...what's next in BMW's portfolio overhaul?

2-series, 4-series, and the M3 and M4...anything else coming?

The 7er is the weakest product in the lineup but is only 3 years old...it still has another 3-4 yrs to go of getting manhandled by the competition.

Just what I was going to say too. This new design doesn't look better than the F06 GC. The proportions isn't right, the rear ends abruptly like a Panamera or a A7. Maybe the 8er is more suited as a coupe.
