Alacantara

Anyone know how to source the alacantara on our M8? Mine is midnight blue. I was thinking about patching the yellow sticker on the visor. Internet search wasnt very fruitful. Any input would be helpful.

I would contact IND. I kind of remember they had access to acquire a euro version of the visor that didn’t have that sticker.

Yea, I am trying for a solution that does not invole a $600 investment. I think if I can use the right adhesive the patch could look much better.

I'm the one that got IND to get me the un-stickered versions from someplace in Europe. Pricey, but to me worth it. Some things I'm quite stubborn about.
Anyway I just did the yellow sticker cover up in my new Lincoln. I hate those in your face (literally) stickers. They aren't even stickers. They are melted into the fabric and don't come off. They irritate me. Dam forced things. Anyway.

I found a fabric almost exactly like my visors in the Aviator on Amazon. So close it was a great match. Already sticky on one side and easy to cut. So I removed the visors and brought them into the table where they were easier to work on. 15 minutes later with some trimming to size and....bingo!
They look great and cost me $16.99 CAD...lol For 2 sheets. They aren't perfect but 100 times better than the yellow warnings.
I have seen advertised exact material sticker for Porsche I believe it was. A few other vehicles too. But they were 60 bucks type thing.
I've never seen Alcantara one's though.

Side note:
My first attempt on the M8 visors I used a black vinyl type material to cover them up. It did work well but it irritated me because it wasn't the same Alcantara cloth. It did however look way better though even with that type of sticker. Better than yellow.
If price is the barrier on new Euro one the sticker is a decent alternative.
So now no longer do those big yellow warnings grace my vision.
Replacing Alcantara might be harder. The visors in the Aviator are a dense fabric type cloth. Almost an alcantara but not.
Anyway amazon did the trick nicely.
Try googling patches of Alcantara maybe?

Some rubbing alcohol and a Mr. Clean magic eraser. Took some patience and effort but I completely removed mine this way. Your mileage may vary but it turned out great.

Fine people, these are warning labels embedded into the visor for a good reason. I hate to be ‘that guy’, but…. Hey it’s your car, do as you must. No judgement here.

Know anyone seriously injured by an airbag? I do…know any children?

Cover it up, but don’t remove it?

Or just do like me and keep your visors in the down position all the time. When I first read this, I thought, huh where is this yellow sticker thing, haha.

As mentioned early in the thread…you can try to procure a set of visors from the Euro or Asian markets that don’t have the warning labels on them.

You can see the BMW 11 digit part nbrs for the US market visors in night blue…vs the BMW 11 digit part nbrs for Euro/Asian markets night blue visors:

Fun fact. Alcantara is a brand. All this time I thought it was the name of the actual material.

Quote:
Alcantara is the brand name of a synthetic textile with a soft, suede-like microfibre pile, noted for its durability. Alcantara was developed in the 1970s by Miyoshi Okamoto and initially manufactured by the Italian company Alcantara. The term has an Arabic root and means "the bridge".

(I truly say this in good humor) you got waaaaaaaaaay too much time on your hands if a sticker on the visor bothers you that or life must be really good and you're just really desperate to find something wrong with it.

The real question here is, why are our visors so damn skinny with a useless mirror ?? Hmmm ? lol

I mean, even at this width , a wider mirror should have been possible

I know loooooooooooots of people with very little time on their hands that don't like them much either. And they're not even desperate.
How do explain that?

Well I can tell ya that when you do cover it up or loose it somehow, the car looks a lot nicer when you scan across the front area. And why wouldn't it right? Yellow stands out on the visor like shit on a wedding dress.
Hence why they make em yellow to begin with.
If you're like me you'll enjoy the look of them gone. The car looks more special to me anyway. Instead of some cartoon sticker 12 inches from my face.
The interior is so nice on these cars and the intrusion takes away from it.
I saw a beautiful Rolls Royce last week. Same deal inside of course.
Half a million bucks and a two dollar sticker on each visor.
F@#$ that!
Not in my vehicles.
I'll just have to deal with sticker-less increased risk of death....lol

My wife, who is not a car person, noticed how bad the visors looked the first time she was in it. I think her exact words were 'these yellow stickers sure suck'

Yeah, I dislike em. People who are too stupid to understand the dangers after all these years shouldn't breed anyway.

On the other hand I've removed them several times, and it has left a slightly different look to the Alcántara underneath. Not so sure if I believe in the "cant tell it was ever there" concept.

Aftermarket colors may be different. More blues here:
