Flex Disk replacement

Hi all, recently got recommended to replace my flex disk attached the image. It’s not covered under the platinum extended warranty given the wear and tear nature of it. They are quoting around $2k for the repair. Not sure if I should go independent for this

2k !!!! holy crap How much was the part cost? I find BMW drive train specially the drive shafts are super simple and east to to work with. I would recommend getting quotes at independent shops for sure. I couldn't imagine up on a lift it taking more than 2-3 hrs... Hell I just took one off my project 235 and dropped the fuel tank in under 3 hrs.

I don't feel like that's a wear and tear part; it's not something I would expect to have to change during the warranty period on any car without an abuse component precipitating it.

Is that their claim?

Are you feeling anything in the drivetrain as you drive, how does the car feel?

Seems smooth, there was a bit of rusty brakes after I did and uncarriage wash and went on a trip for two weeks but quickly wore off after a drive home.

Hi,

there is no need for a new flexible disc. It is only the outer rubber. The core is surely fine. Please have also a look to the BMW document.

Seems that would be covered. That’s not something that just wears. What year is your car and how many miles?

Everything you ever wanted to know about BMW flex discs. We had one replaced in my wife's z3 many years ago. 2k sound about right given the cost of labor now days. The part is not very expensive but typically lots of things need to be removed or loosened before you can actually start replacing the disc.

As do I. I’m sure it does what it’s supposed to but it’s well shy of the new car one. I had leather raise up under rear side window and it wasn’t covered, but bmw did goodwill since my 19 only has ~6k miles. It’s an example like this of the platinum that concerns me.

I still have some factory warranty left and then 4 years of extended warranty. Hope to not need it.
