Grill bubbles & fading

Just over 50k on my 2020 m8 comp. Brought to the dealer anticipating a warranty replacement of the grill, but the damn SA wouldn't budge since I was 2,500 miles over 50k. Shocked that a car like this would have such lousy fit and finish on the grill and that the dealer wouldn't simply replace it. Anyone else have this happen?

Kinda looks like when someone wraps the chrome and it starts to fail... Take a look under a bubble.

Dang, that is no good.
You are welcome to the one I took off my '23 at 3k miles, just pay for shipping. I replaced it with the CF one and don't have a use for it anymore.

Agreed as looks like a wrap more so than a original Shadowline grill which is metal and paint. Paint shouldn't bubble like whatsoever.

Happy to help.

Hahhaa, my daughter said the car was "broccoli green" and that morphed into the "Broccoli-mobile". I thought it was super cute, so the name stuck

Broccoli-mobile - I just sent you a PM. Thank you very much!

The car is completely stock. I have done nothing to it other than winter tires and Weather Tech mats for winter. The grill certainly look likes it was wrapped by BMW.

I would send a note to BMW NA and complain about the issue, you never know, they might do something about it!

Years ago I had a 2004 545i, the torque converter inside the transmission failed after my warranty expired in three or four months. Luckily my dealer are good guys, the service manager escalated the issue to the GM and they sent a letter to BMW NA explaining the situation and advised them that the car was always serviced at their dealership and I've been a BMW client for years... They requested BMW's assistant even though the warranty had expired. The cost of the replacement transmission was over $15k not including labour. BMW asked that I pay ˜$3K and they picked up the rest.

You have an asshole SA, escalate the issue to the service manager & GM of the dealership first and if he/she don't help, then reach out to BMW NA and let them know how you've been treated! Good Luck.

Broccoli-mobile - I received the grill today, so thank you very much. Packaging was fantastic and it arrived unscathed. Quick question - are the vertical slats and m8 logo reusable from my original?

Good stuff, glad it arrived safely sir, I tried to wrap the mess out of it. Yes, when you remove the front grill to replace the surround, the part with the slats will come out of the original and go into the new one. Just be sure that the tabs are lined up when pushing the grill into the surround. If they are not lined up, you can scratch the area between the slats, like I did.

Also, I think I remember seeing where some posted a pdf of instruction for installing the CF one. They would be the same and could be helpful to use

Just curious about the wrap angle; did you determine if the shadowline is just a factory wrap of the chrome piece?

I meant to take a pic before sending it, but yes that's how it looks. There is a black coating over the plastic, you can see it more easily from the back side of the grill. I would have thought it would have been just black plastic. Must be easier/cheaper to do it this way?

True Shadowline is not a wrap but rather paint on metal. The assumption is when the car hit the dealership it had chrome and they wrapped it prior to the OP's interest in the purchase. Once again just an assumption as the OP didn't state whether it was ordered or just a spec car off the lot.

BMW FUBAR'd my 1st order and ironically my 2nd. But on the second one it was just a matter of unwanted Cerium (it's a M850i) so my CA stepped up and they eradicated the Cerium with all OEM Shadowline parts. 4 years of 115 degree summer days here in the Phoenix area and the grill is still flawless as paint on metal vs a wrap. The heat kills a poor wrap job no questions asked.
