Coding - Just verified successful coding of Anti-Dazzle in M850 GC

I coded this a while back but tonight was the first time I've been out driving with it at night. It is really pretty cool to see this in action! It just felt so wrong having the blue high beam indicator lit up while seeing oncoming traffic.

If anybody is interested, I'll post up the full list of FDL codes plus VO coding but I basically got it from Ifr over in the G05 board.

Well done. I think it's great to have it posted here as well. I too disclosed the coding I performed in the other thread so the more we have around here the better I would think as we know what we post works also!

Will do!

As I mentioned, I actually coded it a while back but I took notes of which codes I modified so I will gather those and post here.

Can you do us all a favor and start a comprehensive coding thread covering everything you've done to date? So far it is spread out across various threads which will make it harder to find for the rest of the crowd plus new comers to the forum. In fact it may be beneficial to include a basic overview of eSysX, .e.g, obtaining the software, installation, connection to the car, etc. Apologies in advance for the ask but if you're up for it it would be greatly appreciated by all.

I'd have no problem putting something like that together but wouldn't want to do it without giving credit to those that I inherited the info from.

Additionally, in order to provide the necessary building blocks to a new coder, I would need to link to outside forums and I don't know what this forums policy is on that?

Can you build something like an excel spreadsheet on goggle docs and thus it's "your" documents website but lists everything from everything everyone everywhere?

Hi all,
I think each one of us can just say what was coded and which parameters were altered not? I suppose there is no copyright on these and it's clear each one of us gathers information where it's to be found and applies it (at his/her own risk). Of course an excel file based on an existing template would also be fine but that would take up a bit more time to compile. Just my 2 cents.

bloozemanAZ, I just sent you a PM with first draft link.

@Others... I have begun working on a spreadsheet for 8 Series coding and will start a new thread for it as soon as it is further along. I do intend to make some basic youtube videos as well but I assure you they will lack and resemblance of professional production. Haha!

It's such a cool feature; agreed!

I've had it on my M8 for a while and the 3,160 mile journey from WA to FL benefitted greatly from it if I pushed my daily mileage target into dusk and dark.

However, the ONE thing I want fixed through coding remains elusive: the auto-dimming of the digital gauge cluster. If anyone's fixed this, please PM me with the details before I lose it and peel my fucking tints off by hand.

... and now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Are you referring to the "bug" that some report appearing after a software update that makes the cluster & iDrive almost too dim to make out when it is bright outside?

Yes, I think we're saying the same thing. I've coded the fix for the console display but can't find the same combo for the gauge cluster.

It seems you're saying it's a bug--is it fixed in a given update?

I feel like I read somewhere that it was a "bug". I know I didn't experience it with 03/2020.40 but I do experience it with 07/2020.45.

Which module get's FDL coded to fix the console?

Dunno, I wasn't paying attention when Rich (my coding guy) did it. The module and key-value pairs weren't the hard part--the values and their relative interactions were.

I can put you in touch with Rich if interested. For completeness, I believe Ben can also do this now.

Do you have window tints?

Yes...20% all around. I'll do some digging in eSys and see what I can find. Thanks, Limey!

Cool, thanks!

To confirm: do you experience the same issue?

Aside: having recently moved to FL, things have improved because it's usually very bright here but the problem persists. Wind our tinted windows down, et voila. This was definitely one of those, "why fix what ain't broken" moments for me. Manual analog or digital brightness controls were hardly a distraction--now, and oh so ironically, it's far more of a distraction because I can't read the freakin' map.

I sure do! It started when I went from 03/2020.40 > 07/2020.45. :

Bummer. :

The console display is now vivid but the gauge cluster is nigh on illegible some of the time. Unnecessary fixes; BMW over engineering at its best.

I'm using eSysX to launch.

eSysX - 4.23.22
eSys - 3.34.0
PSdZData - 4.25.33

Does that help?

Yeah it helps thx, so that's the esys that I need to purchase on esysx.com am I right? Also did you manage to code the European sign for speed limits, which is a red and white circle?

If you need to ask that question: do NOT use Esys on your own; you'll brick your car in a few heartbeats.
