How many ventilated fans in seats?
I know there's one in bottom cushion center and one upper area of backrest, is there supposed to be one on lower section of backrest? I don't feel one there.

Not sure on location, but the fans are really poor in the backrest. I can only really feel the ones in the base of the seat - which is the same on my GC as it was on my Coupe.

They’re 8-9 fans depending on which seat option you have. If you have the extending thigh support, then there’s one fan in that section which make 5 fans in the lower seat cushion. If you don’t have the extending thigh support, then there’s only 4 fans in the lower seat cushion.

Yes…if you optioned them…no, if you did not.
Example of the 4 fans in the upper seat back of the 8 series: Pretty much yes. The 5/6/7/8/X5/X6/X7 share much of their operational design architecture. There may be slight differences like in this case…the M850i coupe only has 8 fans…but again, their operational design is the same as the 9 fans in the 6 series or 7 series or X/5/6/7 series.

So seat ventilation is the same as 'active' seat ventilation? I thought that feature was only available in the 7 series, or with a special seat package, like 'executive seat package' with massage, etc. So just the ventilated seat option is going to have those 8/9 fans? On some 8 series, front seat ventilation is still a $300 or so option, no? Doubt with BMW prices, they'd include something that sophisticated, but maybe I'm wrong.

The fans do not blow air out of the perforations...the fans circulate air within the permeable layer below...thus they are drawing air into the permeable layer. Which helps evaporate sweat or any moisture and prevents you from sitting to a wet seat. Comes in handy when your clothing gets wet from rain or snow, too...and you can also turn on the heating elements if you begin to get chilled (in the spring /fall) from wet jackets/shirts when caught in a rain shower.

A light China paper can do the trick. Usually the least effective ventilated seats are when they suck (pun intended). Apparently the BMW ones are no different... if that's what they do. Try it with a light paper, and seat ventilation on max level.

I Wouldn't worry to much - in my opinion the ventilated seats in my 840GC are barely noticeable in terms of effectiveness and noisy as well.

And with the current market…sometimes options are discontinued. I have not gone to a current M8 or M8C configuration site…but at one time the M8 as well as the other current 8 series could option the ventilated seats (option code S453A). Again, I have not gone to a current configuration site…so I don’t know if the ventilated seats are standard equipment or an option with a particular seat or package selection…but the option code is S453A to get seat ventilation. One could also google to see if there’s a current PDF ordering/pricing guide that can be downloaded to see what options are available and how to configure to get ventilated seats (again, if they are being offered in the market in which you live).
