Hi all,

I’m looking at a M850i that’s coming with HR cooling package and seems to have P Zero Summer tires. Sadly I live in the Midwest, so if I get this car I need to get All Season tires. What is the optimal way to do so? buying P Zero All Season tires or buying new wheels with them on it. Around how much would each option cost? Thanks in advance

I'll tell you, I've been very impressed with an all season set I put on my M850 from Vredestein. In fact, I liked them so much I put an all season set on my wifes' former '21 X3 M40i.

I was talking to the Michelin rep at the MiX event about my similar quandary. I asked him how bad it is to actually swap tires back and forth for summer and winter on the same wheels versus buying new wheels. In the end it sounds like the answer was to get the PS4 all seasons and leave them on year-round. I'm not tracking my car and I'm not likely to notice much of a difference in them compared to the regular PS4s that I have now for daily driving, and I don't have to buy new wheels. I'm not looking to drive the car in the snow but would like to be able to drive it when it's below 45° and maybe when there is a chance of a slight dusting as opposed to my car sitting dormant in the garage from November to April.

On the swapping tire topic I told him I see all these things on the internet about how it is bad or not bad. He said these are so low profile tires that if you don't find someone that really knows what they are doing with swapping them that they can damage the bead.

+1 for the Michelin ps4as. Although I had them for about 8k miles and they tend to develop an oscillating drone after a while. Performance was fine otherwise in Michigan winters.

How do you deal with the old tires? Does the tire shop buy them from you?

I figure I'll just try and sell mine to someone local if I can find a taker. Otherwise they'll sit in my basement. I'm assuming tire shops don't buy used tires?

I lease all my cars and rarely buy them off lease with only a few exceptions in the past.

So immediately after acquiring any new leased car, I put on a new set of tires and store the OEMs. That way, when I turn the car back in I just put the OEMs back on and I don't ever get dinged on tire replacement costs. You'd have to buy a new set anyways after 3 years so why not drive on them from the get go?

Interesting idea. The Michelin rep said the PS4 all seasons should go about 40,000 mi which I'm definitely not going to get to in the next 2 to 3 years

They are summer tires and I live in the Midwest so I definitely need to get all seasons I think. Just want to optimize cost for this haha

I love my Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus. Good grip and handling and will even do burn outs and power slides. Also as I didn’t like the shorter sidewalls that created too much gap, I had 245/40 and 275/35 installed.

My OEM pirelli from my M8 were damaged by installer while swapping.
Don't recommend swapping tires on same set of wheels.

If you have the room, time, and want best or safest performance, separate wheels and tires for winter or summer are ideal.
All seasons are fine if you are not pushing the limits in winter or summer weather.
I personally like michelin cross climate 2 all weather tires for climates like Chicago.
These sacrifice a little summer performance for considerably better winter performance.

Doesn't this impact the accuracy of the speedometer? If so, how much? Are any other things impacted by the increase in the sidewall percentage (e.g. suspension, xdrive, etc.)?

I'm running PS4s and I wanted to get PS4 all seasons for the PNW winter (I survived through last winter with the PS4s, not recommended). I have 295/30 on the front and 305/30 on the back, but can't seem to find matching PS4 A/S with either all 4 non-run flats or all 4 run flats.

Does anyone know if this configuration is even an option with Michelins? What would be the second best choice?

I live in the Chicago area and I vote for the Continental Extreme Contacts.

Grip is excellent for regular street driving. I drove it last winter, sometimes through snow, without any issue. I’m not trying to set records here, so on a winter day with heavy snow, you have to drive carefully no matter what tires you have. But I found them good enough to do the job.

Wet traction is fine as well. They ride smooth.

I’d get them again.

I like the little bit of extra rubber there, it looks great. Do you notice any difference in the ride and/or handling?

Extremely quiet. In the High Performance A/S, they’re highest rated in just about every category on Tire Rack.

Ride is much better and quieter and haven’t noticed any difference in handling.

The speedo is off ~4% so speedo reads 65, actual speed 67. Ride is smoother and quieter. My 8 is RWD.
