Driver Seat comfort vs F90?

Current F90 owner and love the seat comfort as do most others on the forum, but a lot say the F92 is far less comfortable. I’m considering at some point trading so just want to get some feedback. What are the major differences? And, the seat itself is the same with regards to dimensions right?

Deal Breakers: Must have lumbar and headrest tilt forward.

Immaterial: massage and side bolster adjustment

I’ve only test driven the 5, but I have the M8GC and I wouldn’t describe the seats as comfortable.

I came from an RS e-tron GT then an RSQ8 and both were substantially more comfortable with equal bolstering.

I’m in the standard M8 seats. Not the CFs.

Have had 22 M8GC and Coupe. I personally loved the seats in both. They fit me well. I love the ventilation.
Had carbon seats at the 2 day m school at Thermal. They were awesome when going really fast, but would not want them for a daily driver.

The f90 seats are way better for long rides

F90 seats are like a lazy boy with firm cushions. Drove 8 hours first day I owned mine and was barely tired at the end of the trip.
M8 seats felt flatter, easier to slide around in and almost felt firmer. The M8 felt like very nice 3 or 4 series seats while the F90 felt like a really luxurious 7 series seat (more comfortable than my W212 and W213 E63s')
But I haven't had much extended seat time in the M8 standard seat. I have the carbon seats in mine so that's another completely different level lol.

I had a 2018 F90 and those things were soft as goose shit ... my 2 M8's not so much but I wouldnt say the F90 seats are waaaaaaaaay better.

Plus all I did was gain weight to increase cushion.

I have a M850i which is the same standard seat (non-CF buckets) as the M8. The primary difference is the diamond weave pattern/stitching which the M850i doesn't have. I doubt it adds any cushion but if anything probably negligible.

That said I've done 6 hours straight on road trips to San Diego in the M850i and the seats are very comfortable for their and the car's purpose. I test drove a M5 back in 2019 and it's seats were more akin to the wife's X5. Different and more cushion, etc. given the "purpose" of both cars.

As for your deal breakers and immaterial the answers are:

Quote:
Deal Breakers: Must have lumbar and headrest tilt forward.
Full lumbar support. The headrests are powered raise/lower but no tilt. There is though a manual button to slide the headrests forward/back.

Quote:
Immaterial: massage and side bolster adjustment
Definitely no massage which previous F90 owners called out on the forum in other threads. Full powered side bolsters. Not sure about the F90 but the 7-series apparently has seats that the side bolsters will "expand" on shutting down for ease of exit and entry. Not on the 8-series.

Mine was a 2018 too, don't remember the seats being that soft....
I wanna trade mine in for standard seats. When I am in the carbon seats, it's one of the best seats I've had in any car, when I have to get in or out, I curse the day I thought it was a great idea for my 6'3" long-legged frame

Besides the wife factor (she already complains about getting in/out of the passenger seat lugging her carryon sized purse while wearing 4"+ heels &#128540 for my 6'6" long-legged frame the CF buckets are an absolute no go.

I had the First Edition car with the Smoke Leather, not sure if the seats were truly different (prob not) but the compression of the cushions and back cushions were more plush for sure than both my M8's.

I cant imagine the egress and ingress situations that carbons create but I can see the benefit of being properly placed in a seat when hitting those turns with inertia. Over on the G8X side its a mixed bad on if they like them or not (same seats I think). But they sure look nice

I still swear by the Porsche 18 ways. What a blend of bolstering, and comfort but not in excess. My Plaid--- no comment.

It's simple you reach down cup and pull up and work your way out all is well and protected...

Absolutely agree on the looks nice. Went with a buddy on a test drive of the G80 he was interested in and had the CF buckets. He's what I refer to as a fire hydrant build short and squat and me I'm long and lanky aka a saguaro build. Both of us had issues with the ingress/egress but then again we didn't know Tenac's secret sauce of cup and lift. 😜

Absolutely agree as my test drive a few weeks back of a 992 with the 18-way seats was a winner. Loved the driving experience (made my M850i feel like a numb driving yet still fun experience). Now I just need to get past the stupid ADM and nose bleed pricing on my builds plus "get in line" for an allocation. 🤣

Only comment on Tesla is my 2019 test drives of a P100D with Ludicrous Speed left so much of the luxury creature comforts lacking it didn't live on the shortlist long. Granted if one has several cars a Tesla Model S is a great stable add for that ridiculous torque. But I'm a single car owner (plus a SUV for the wife as her choice) so I want an all arounder that ticks all the boxes of luxury and fun to drive. The luxury is my reservation with the 992 but the driving experience may push me over the edge. 👍

Well my local dealer got a new one in stock so I went to test fit the seats. Overall, I don’t think I would have any problem with it at all. At least for the 5 minutes I spent in it, I was pleasantly surprised with the comfort. While it doesn’t have the electronic headrest tilt I thought I needed, the headrest sits far enough forward with some other adjustments it’s works fine. I will say there is A LOT more leg room in the F90, but again, I would be OK! Also, honestly it was the first M8 I really looked at closely in person, so I was an amazed how much shorter in height it seemed than mine, but it’s definitely “sportier” looking, even with mine highly modded for aggressive stance. I was also surprised that for $144k sticker, extended leather gets you plastic against your right leg. Assuming full leather options get you leather or alcantera there?

At the end of the day, both the m5 and m8 are inarguably awesome vehicles! Thanks for the feedback and allowing me to crash your forum!
