That's odd. I'm in Ohio, getting my car from a dealer in Maryland. Who did you try using?

Next Level….had a good experience the first time and crappy the last two. No reason to use them anymore.

Weird. I used him although only have one experience so far. Good experience overall. Sometimes he's slow getting back to me but finally he turned me over to the dealer which is a better experience.

I just became interested in buying an 840i is it realistic to get the car under MSRP or should I wait until the end of the year? Thank you

Likely, that's very difficult these days. I think we've had one member here who recently worked thru a broker and got $1500 off of an M8, but it seems like that was out of the ordinary. Many (most?) dealers are marking-up the price over MSRP, but that's almost always able to be negotiated back down to MSRP.

With all that said, there's nothing like making a few phone calls. The supply and demand equation may be quickly changing.

Yep two dealers in my area want $2500 ADM but one (dealer I bought my wife's X5 from and the M850i) is offering me MSRP plus any loyalty, etc. available.

I think if I am seeing correctly on Leasehackr website (excellent resource by the way) it is around 0.0019 on the 8 series. That should be double checked, but it looks like it.

That was me. I agree likely rare thing. I was talking to a dealer last week in California about an X3 M40 that they had in stock. I told him I wanted to pay list price for it. He called me back the next day and said that one of their long-time customers was working on a deal at 4000 over list price. Definitely wasn't about to pay that

I have owned a dozen cars more or less over the years never paid MRSP always under, I refuse to pay MRSP or at price gouging I will wait until we are in recession and dealers start making huge discounts.

Your sentiment can't be debated. I wish I could say that I've only owned a dozen cars, but I can say that I've never considered paying MSRP in 40+ years of car ownership. But for my circumstances, the time was right to make a switch. And in today's market where demand is hugely outstripping supply, I drew a line at MSRP (would not consider a ADM). But if you don't feel the need to make a switch, your logic is, well, completely logical.

The only thing I'd disagree with is your price gouging comment. I'm a capitalist. The invisible hand of the free market is determining pricing.

Couldn't agree more. I too am approaching 40 years of car ownership and had never once paid MSRP (thanks for the education Dad...:-) However, this go round, felt fortunate to find a dealer who let me order an M850 at MSRP considering the state of the current market. Was also looking at options from Mercedes and Porsche and even where I could find an allocation, could not get any dealers (talked to many) to let me have one without significant ADM. Now while that is where i also drew the line, did not want to wait any longer to get an order on the books so jumped at MSRP to order what will be my dream car. Good news is that because of market conditions was able to sell my 3 year old stinger GT2 for just about what I paid for it after enjoying the heck out of it for 3 years. Market is what market is...

Totally agree especially with price gouging. If a dealer sells at MSRP as that is what the market supply/demand dictates I have no issues. ADM on the other hand is a different story in my book but for every buyer their MMV on whether it makes sense in their end of the demand spectrum.

That said as per my posting in my other thread about buying out my M850i lease I'm absolutely going to do so. Love the car, at 2.5 years old it's literally brand new and less than 9K miles. I'll ride it out until at least the end of 2023 when the factory warranty expires and then take another look at the market and see where things stand.

Just bought a 2020 M8 Comp Convertible with 3,500 miles... looks brand new. Stickered at $178K MSRP. Paid $131K. What should I have paid?

Bingo. Everyone has their own value prop for what they're willing to pay for a want vs a need. I wanted exactly what I desired for the M850i and over paid vs just buying a ridiculously discounted 2019 on the lots in the area. Do I regret it? Absolutely not. 👍

Hey ski, you did just fine, especially in today's market. The M8 was initially overpriced and BMW had to beat a quick retreat. Today, your car new is about $150k, so you got a $20k discount on what's essentially a brand new car.

Thank you for answering my question. Very hard to determine the market right now, so I was curious. I was thinking I probably paid $10K too much, but obviously I didn't really care too much since I bought it anyway.

Another point to consider…if you price one of these M8's in another market (like Europe) you're going to pay substantially more…for the same product. I think the US might be the lowest price market for an M8.

I think another $10k off a two year old car would have been extraordinarily. It's not an apples to apples comparison, but I sold my eight year old 911 GTS for $44k less than original sticker and $34k less than I originally paid.

I don't want to sound negative but the reason why stealers are and will get away gouging prices is because WE consumers still buy these cars over MRSP so its not the Dealer who wants to make tons of money but is our fault as consumers and are incentivizing this stupid practice.
