While there are things to improve for them, I must say maintenance cost is low and quality of cars is good. What are you referring to specifically? About stop sale, it's only applicable to certain models produced in a certain period where they found a defect in manufacturing. Unfortunate but it happens. At least they did take ownership of the problem.

Decent review, but he loses me at the end by comparing prices with Bentley and Aston Martin. The base M8C starts at $133K, fully loaded with every option it would still be well under $180K
The Bentley with zero options starts at $202K, the Aston is $198K. If we're being realistic, by the time someone options either one of these "rivals" even modestly, they'd be pushing $220K-$250K. So in reality we're looking at between $80-$100K difference between the Bimmer and it's supposed competition. Once you begin to add in variables such as 3 year free maintenance with the BMW, along with insurance costs, you're looking at an even wider price margin.

Amazing car, but can someone tell me what's up with the tiny rear brake calipers? Weight savings? They look like the same calipers that were on my 2014 328.

I had the opposite experience so far. The F80 is my 4th BMW (M3 E46, 135i Coupe, M3 E92 and now the M3 F80) and I don't remember I had even one issue. But I also take care of my cars, moderate driving during the break-in period, no high-revving with cold engine etc.

Look closely at the rear brakes on some super cars and you’ll see a second small caliper (usually black so it doesn’t stand out) or a section at either end of the caliper that look quite different where the screw part is to push the pad into the disc |

But there is a big difference between 3.5 to 60 and 3sec. Half a sec to 60 and more in a quarter mile is a world of difference. This appears more relevant than top speed in the daily driving experience.. Top speed is more or less academic because few will take it there. I maybe wrong but assume that the Alpina simply unrestricted (like Bentleys). Unless geared differently the restriction will be the top speed differentiator.
