It only appeared when I switched off after getting home this morning. Started it and switched off a couple of times and it’s still there. I’ll try driving it tomorrow, booked in for next Monday at main dealer.

Car is running fine despite warning message.

I suspect the warning message is directed at my wallet….

If memory serves you have a 2022 so should still be under the original factory warranty. Another oddity as I remember your post on the Connected Drive subscription expiring before the full 3-years and how that's dealt with delivery to the dealer vs here in the U.S. at the actual in-service date aka purchase date. The oddity is according to the BMW UK website the original factory warranty is only 3 years but unlimited miles. Here in the NA market it's 4 years or 50K miles.

I got this on all of my M cars for various reasons. The latest culprit on the M8 was a leaking coolant tank dripping on fuel injectors causing damage.

In the UK warranty is 3 years / 60k miles, and the connected drive subscription is 3 years and 3 months from date of manufacture, although some dealers will just extend it before handover. If you’re unlucky enough to be stuck with it though (like me), you’ve just got to suck it up and pay the renewal when it expires, as BMW stay firm to that 3 years and 3 month narrative.

Thanks for the clarification on the warranty as the website just stated 3-years and unlimited mileage but some fine print on the "retailer warranty" so guess the latter is capping it at 60K miles.

I’ve actually just looked into that myself and you’re absolutely right. No idea when they changed that, but it is unlimited mileage within 3 years. Not that it’ll make much difference to them, as people doing more than 60k in 3 years will be few and far between!

That’s what they tried to,fob me off with - I pointed out what their advertising literature said and they extended mine ‘as a gesture of goodwill’.

In other words ‘to make me go away’.

A quick update on this before the car goes in on Monday….got a call from the dealer to ask if they could interrogate the car remotely to see if they can identify the problem and, if appropriate, order any parts needed ready for Monday.

How cool is that!

Very clever eh! But equally makes me suspicious haha.

Would you mind sharing that literature on the Connected Drive please mate? I’m about to go back into bat with them as it expires at the end of march, despite my car being registered at the end of August!

2020 unfortunately. First time I have not extended the warranty on any bmw I have owned as a) I have never made a claim and b) the cost of doing so was ridiculous compared to previous years.

At least it seemed that way at the time…

Turns out it was the particulate filter. Remote interrogation was ‘non-conclusive’, and that caused a bit of head scratching in the workshop. They ran a couple of processes that took over an hour with the engine running and they sorted it.

The diagnosis was that I need to give the car a good run out occasionally……certainly in the last three months it has had very little use and then for very short journeys due to illness so that makes sense.

£242 later I am a (relatively!)happy bunny and still well ‘in pocket’ against the cost of extending the warranty.

It was in the sales material/‘brochure’ produced online.

Essentially if there was a gap between production and initial sale of more than three months it is not adjusted.
