My take on M850 vs M8.

Forget about comfort. You can buy comfort for the M8.

If you don’t think you’ll have buyers remorse after not getting an M8 OR you just don’t want to spend your disposable income on the M8, M850 is not too too much of a step down.

The M850 is one hell of a nice ride and you can add to it over time to enhance the aesthetics you don’t like. But it ain’t an M. If you don’t care about that, then the M850 it is!

It's weird that my M8GC is technically the longest and widest car I've ever owned but it doesn't look it when approaching because it's also the lowest to the ground with the sloping inward greenhouse. My RS7/RS6's looked GIGANTIC in person parked on a curb or in a parking spot and the M8GC has this deceptively svelte styling to it (which I appreciate) that makes it look much smaller than it is.

My last vehicle was a GLE 63s Coupe. It appears the M8 GC measurements has it beat lengthwise by 4-5”!! 😲

In the end I went for a M8 Convertible. Couldn’t be happier. 😊👍

Yes, according to what I can find the M8GC I'm in now is longer AND wider at the rear than the X6M I traded in for it, and that car (truck) looked huge in person by comparison. Sneaky designers and their sneaky measurements hiding, heh.

Dead on from the rear though, the tight sculpting on the M8GC makes it looks its proportions like it should.

It's interesting you guys said that.
I had a loaner car (530i) for last 4-5 days and drove it about 350 miles. Beside the height, it was too long to me. Looked at the spec and figured out it's 200". I could feel the size and the weight although it's lighter than M8 Coupe.
When I picked up my M8 today, I felt like how low, short and wild is M8 LOL.

The longest car I have ever had was M6 @ 192.8" (1" longer than M8)

It was 215.5” long and 75.2” wide! It may have just been one of the longest two-door cars ever made. lol 😂

Update:

I searched almost every single M8 or M850 available in the country, one by one, almost 120 cars, and I couldn’t find ANY CAR with these two interiors other than the M850 on carmax. Ideally I want the GC (M8 or m850 both okay) but only with that interior. Crazy that I can’t find any option other than that M850 2-dr on

You all made me concerned about the coupe rear seats for our 4 year old so now am concerned and trying to find a GC… but can’t find the interior i want regardless of any exterior color on any 8-series trim

You really need a Grand Coupe unless you want to get divorced… lol 😂

You can either wait til one pops up with that interior.. Or “consider” going for another interior color like Silverstone.

It’s really gorgeous! It’s light colored as to what you’re looking at and the Beige and Brown areas are Black. Something to consider.

Silverstone is actually my favorite interior color (even though I have Red as I purchased used). You can search for Silverstone by selecting grey and see if something out there catches your eye.

*These videos are both Coupes (I couldn’t find a M8 GC Silverstone Video) but you’ll get a good idea on how awesome it looks. 😊

If it's your only car, I'd get M850, the M8's suspension is too stiff as a daily, and I have a perfectly healthy lower back at my early 30s.
I got a M8 because I have a 540i as a daily. Which tbh drives much smoother than the M8.

For what it's worth: I also have a focus on comfort, and I also am a former S-class owner.

I actually traded out of an AMG S-class into an M850i in part because of its jarring suspension.

I also went the M850i route -- not the M8 -- based on multiple comments here suggesting it would be more comfortable of a ride than the M8 is.

I haven't been disappointed. I have owned both AMG and non-AMG versions of the S-class coupe in the past, as well as the Audi A7/S7 platform, and the M850i is approximately comparable to the S7. It's not quite as smooth as the S coupe, but it also feels substantially less "boaty" and much more nimble and focused, as you'd expect.

It is noticeably smoother than the AMG S, though.

Is ordering a new car from the factory not an option?

Ordering new is a no-no for me. I trade in my daily once every year at most (9-18 months is my average for my daily). clean pre-owned only.

I think I am already settled on the M850 as a priority over M8, but right now with the strict interior color I want, I'd be okay with either of them.

Having several Mbenz AMG cars in the past, and switching to regular ones recently (or fake AMGs), I don't think I will like the M. If it's as stiff as AMGs, it's not a good for me. The smoothness and suspension in the M850 I think will matches what I want. But again, I can't even find a single one now on the market that is Gran Coupe with the color options I want.

I found with an alternative color which is the Silverstone, link below. But it's overpriced for it's age and mileage. Am willing to pay more for the color I want, but not the 2nd priority color like this one.
https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/b...-a8caa88bfaf2/

I have an offer on my current drive that is 10K more than fair market value, valid only until today. If I don't find the car I want, that deal will be void and I may cancel the M8 M850 plan forever in this case : ) It's kina now or never lol

If you can’t handle stiffness; don’t get the M8

But man, the M8 is a difference class of performance when you’re not stuck behind Moms in their godda$n Honda CRV’s with a Kamala Harris bumper sticker like I am 90% of the time.

Open road, and it’s always that stupid car that turns in front of you just in time to spoil the fun.

But when you get some open road, the M8 has the balls!

Having a +1000hp electric Tesla, nothing else will impress me. I think am okay with the power in both (M8 or M850). Comfort matters the most to me honestly. 85% of my rides are in-town 35-40 miles roads too.

Sorry I'm not following you anymore.
If this is your plan to have a car for less than 2 years, then why you dont get that M8 with 29k miles?
I think all of us were commenting for issues with warranty after expiration in 2 years but looks like this is not the case here since you will trade it in before 2 years anyways....

Guys I just left the BMW dealer.
They only have a 4 series coupe!

We both sat in it and we also both sat just okay in the rear seat of the 4 series as adults

Can you all tell me what you were referring to? Is the 8 series rear has smaller seats and less leg room than the 4!!??
If the 8 series rear coupe is just as big or bigger than the 4 then we are fine it. Does the 4 somehow come with bigger rear seats!!??????
