EXACTLY! That's what I'm hoping for too. I scored my current BMW at almost 50% off sticker being only 3 years old, I'm hoping the same on this car.

Pretty much all cars depreciate about 50% after the first 3 years.

I highly doubt the buyers of the 8 series will be cross shopping it with X5M. Totally different cars for different purpose.

It's like saying you could've bought a loaded Cayenne turbo instead of 911 gt3 ...

Instead, it'll be most likely cross shopped against other 4 seater GT cars, like MB S class coupe, Lexus LC500 etc

Personally, I'd buy that Lexus for that N/A engine alone, if I was in the market for this type of vehicle. Although the new 8 has a decent exhaust sound from race track fly by videos online.

These are emotional cars, it's silly to think that people should be following some algorithm to determine a mathematically-optimum decision, like a computer or something.
Yeah the only emotion this vehicle will induce is sadness/depression once the realization hits that you spent 120k on a base car with less features than a fully loaded X5M but costs 30% more.
you are sooooooo wrong about this, beacuse the one who buys 8series doesnt buy it because it is.. I dont know because its just coupe or its just so powerful, 8series buyers buy it because of everything and especially emotions they have for this car, they love the way it looks, way it driver good and fast, they dont look how much fuel it drinks, how much maintance costs are, buyers look this when buying 420d or 430d, not even for m4 which is half price of 850i..

short version: you dont buy m850i just because it is "THE 8"

Well, even electronic seats w/ memory are an option in the EU on most BMWs. It's ridiculous. Here in the USA I couldn't find any BMW without them.

Wow! How to get the coupe fans to pony up more. Take the 6 series and redesign it, change the 6 to an 8 and double the price.

You really should look into a 911 Turbo S then. (not being sarcastic)

The guys on the Porsche forums know their stuff & the Turbo S is notorious for being one of the worst depreciating 911 models. After 3-4 years you could probably easily score one for 40-45% depreciation.

Do some reading on Rennlist if you think I'm crazy. Those guys know how to score deals from the stealerships

Porsche would disagree 100%.

In my opinion their cars are even more emotion than BMW and their model lineups are almost a direct correlation between horsepower and price.

I've seen several graphs that Rennlist members have made, and it's scary how linear the relationship is. So there's no saying BMW may or may not adopt similar practices

Yeah the only emotion this vehicle will induce is sadness/depression once the realization hits that you spent 120k on a base car with less features than a fully loaded X5M but costs 30% more.

I agree they wouldn't. The reason for my comparison was to notice the difference in value. This car will have an HK sound system when pricing starts at 113k (BEFORE TAX). Fully loaded it's approaching super car territory. For a few thousand more there are cars that can destroy the 8 series in every category. Also, the S class coupe is another rip off from a value perspective. Sure it's a phenomenal car, but price is not justifiable IMO. same goes for this coupe. This will be a super niche market. They'd have been better off competing with super cars by building something more performance oriented than the i8 (which is not).

What?

Perfect machine for ripping up MLK, over to Pratt, down Presidents Street then end up up on Thames parked in front of the Oyster House for their lobster roll, then staring at it through the window while listening to live music from the Waterfont Hotel.

Your mistake is that you assume everyone has the same definition of "value" as a monetary thing.

Different people have different mixes of what's important when it comes to "value:"
- MSRP
- depreciation
- lease rates
- interior design
- material quality
- power
- handling
- efficiency
- prestige/image
- technology
- doors
- roof design
- lighting
- colors
- weight
- practicality
- curb appeal
- etc.

You are assuming that everyone's idea is the same "mix" of the above that you do. All you're really confirming is that this doesn't appear to be the car for people like and people who think like you, and that's 100% fair - you just need to understand the limitations of that statement.
