H&R Springs Issue

Just received my H&R springs for my M8 coupe, but I think the set was mismatched. I received 2x 28686-2 (front) and 2x 28686-1 (rear). The part number ending in -1 is supposed to be F90 M5. Before I start disassembling my suspension, just wanted to make sure I received the right parts. Thanks!

So this is interesting, the 28686-2 is not only for the M8 CE but also the heavier convertible. I would not use the F90 28686-1 as that is only a .75 inch or so drop up front (I had it) and it wont match up with the 1.3 rear drop that the 28686-2 claims.

You must have received a bad batch or a poorly restocked box.

Thanks for confirming - assumed something was off.

I received the same contents for my M8 Convertible. I assumed it was correct, as the part number on the box is correct. I'll give H&R a call on Monday to confirm I received the correct parts, but if you hear anything before hand please let me know via this thread or PM. Thanks.

You had it on a M5 or had it on an M8...while it might have been 0.75" on a M5, isn't it possible the same spring could be a larger drop on the M8?

Also I just noticed Vic55 you flipped it around. We have the -1 part for the REAR not the FRONT.

Thanks for the data point, thought my order was a fluke. I’ve been unable to reach H&R thus far (their phone system says their offices are closed until January 2nd). The authorized dealer I purchased from has also been less than helpful.

If anybody else has had the same issue, please chime in.

If you guys can post before and after, that would be nice once you get the part numbers confirmed.

Ugh the 2nd? My install is coming up...If I can't find out before hand I will see if my shop has any resources to call before they install.

I found this on the H&R website:

WHY DO THE H&R PART NUMBERS ON THE SPRING BOX NOT MATCH WHAT IS ON THE SPRINGS?
The part number on the box is the product part number. The part number on the springs is a component part number. If you would like to verify your product/component part numbers, please call H&R at (888) 827-8881.
Please have the following information available: year, make, and model of the vehicle application, the product part number found on the box, and the individual spring component part numbers.

Turns out we have the correct springs after all. From H&R:

Thank you for contacting H&R regarding your spring set. I apologize you were
not able to get ahold of anyone. We were closed for the long weekend for
Thanksgiving.
The kit 28686-2 is the kit number. Our kits are comprised of individual
springs, which do not always match the kit number.

I wonder if anyone has already used this exact kit to drop their car and has pics? The M8 coupe is still on my radar but I do want to lower it a bit.

There have been a couple forum members that have posted their drop with this kit. I'll install and snap pics once my spacers arrive from IND this week.

A local installer told me (not sure of the veracity) that H&R uses the shortcut by giving you the rear part for the convertible. The issue is the convertible is heavier in the rear so your coupe might not reflect the drop H&R claims.

Let me know what you find out and apologies for being the guinea pig here since I dont have the car yet.

Yes - it appears H&R is taking quite a bit of shortcuts here by using the M5 rear springs and cab front springs to piece this kit together. If the stance looks like the below, I'll be pleased.

Unless I'm mistaken, both of these are on the same H&R springs:

How are you getting M5 front spring from the kit? The M8 convertible front spring part # is: 28686-2 VA (F)

The H&R website does not list any available parts for the M8 Coupe or M8 Grand Coupe.

They list spring parts available for:
M8 Convertible F91
and
M8 Competition Convertible F91

(note that when you select the M8 Competition from the drop down the only chassis listed is F91)

Check for yourself:
http://www.hrsprings.com/application...s/4/2329/2020/

Clearly they will work based on others on the forums installing them on coupes, but they may not be optimized for the F92 which is why they don't list them.

As for taking a shortcut and using the convertible rear springs on the coupe, H&R is doing no such thing. YOU ARE.

Their website does NOT list any available parts for the M8 Coupe or M8 Grand Coupe.
They list parts ONLY for:
M8 Convertible F91
and
M8 Competition Convertible F91

NO spring parts are listed for either flavor of the F92, nor the F93.

Check for yourself:
http://www.hrsprings.com/application...s/4/2329/2020/
Correction: meant M5 rear and M8 convertible front. Several vendors/sites list this setup as "compatible" with F92 M8.

Nevertheless, I have just come across an F92 M8 specific part #, although it isn't listed on H&R's website or sold in the US - 28686-3.

Looks like they provide a 20mm drop at all 4 corners: https://www.tuningblog.eu/en/kategor...-coupe-303310/

Nice find!

I went to their German website: h-r.com/de
and it shows up as the correct part number for the F92 coupe:

Item No. 28686-3 BMW M8 F8CM Coupe (4WD) Lowering VA 20 mm Lowering HA 20 mm
Comments only with adaptive damper control / only with adapt. damper control, incl. competition / incl. Competition

Looks like it just came out a month or so ago.

According to their website (as well as the article you linked) only 20mm or 0.75" drop front and rear. For some reason the F91 is listed as 30mm or 1.2" drop but this is probably a typo on the convertible.

And an update on the 28686-3 from H&R:

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. That kit is what would be used for the F92 M8 Competition Coupe.
We are working on bringing that spring set over from Germany to offer in the US.

Our current listings as you know, are just for the competition convertible. I do not have a time frame for the kit to be offered, but I would hope early into the new year.

So now that we finally have this drama resolved (you got me all concerned when I had the correct parts all along!) what will you do with your springs?

I'll install the F91 springs I received for now. Will revisit getting the correct springs on in the future, if I end up keeping the car long enough.

Got the springs installed today... seems to ride just like stock, even at triple digit speeds. The front looks great - hoping the rears settle a bit more. Just waiting on my spacers to get in now.

It appears that the convertible springs are just that for the vert with the heavier fat rear.

Still looks good but can you show some more closeups of the rear?
