Don't know if it will be the final version, but I do not like that rear view on that CLS. It looks too "simple" and outdated for a car that wants to "battle" the 8 series GC. Just my 2 cents.

Note, they say MB is considering dropping the CLS due to slow sales...sounds eerily familiar

That C-Pillar is a little too chunky for my tastes. Fairly bland styling overall. Kinda surprising.

I don't mind the current CLS in general. MB dropped the CLS 63 AMG version to create the GT63 4 door but all these cars have been slow sellers in any trim for the last 2 generations.

A fully decked out CLS53 price-wide is on par with an 840GC x-drive and I would likely grab the AMG-lite instead. More character IMO...

Totally agree on a CLS53 vs the 840GC. Then again if looking for performance the M850i GC would be the winner. The irony is back in 2016 I walked away from an AMG CLS 63 as I couldn't get past the sticker shock. At the time I couldn't justify spending that amount of $ on a depreciating asset as traditionally I'm a buy and hold car guy.

Wind the clock forward and my M850i has a bigger sticker than the CLS63 I walked away from. However, thanks to this forum I educated myself in the way of the leasing world plus I found myself truly desiring a coupe over a 4 door. In other words a total win from all perspectives including that the walk away $ on the 2016 CLS63 went into a watch that has appreciated 60%.

The CLS is a joke compared to the 8 series (and I used to own a CLS). They don't even value it enough to make an AMG 63 version. It's become an afterthought.

They make a hot version in the form of the CLS53 AMG, but a CLS63 would take sales from the AMG GT63 4Door, hence it was dropped for the current model.

The AMG GT 4door is routinely compared to the M8 Gran Coupe, and the GT73 will only serve to heighten that battle.

Agreed.
On another note, the AMG GT 4 door isn't much of a looker...

Looks are entirely subjective.

In the right colour, the GT63 looks awesome - but so does an M8 GC.

I had a GT63S on order a few years ago, paid the deposit, but had no spec info as the car hadn't been released yet. When the dealer eventually told me the final price (including the aero kit which was an extra), I walked away as £140k seemed too high.

In hindsight, I'm happy I went down the M850i route, especially as a second hand vehicle.

Price has always been a major failing of the GT63S, although residuals (in the UK) are pretty strong...unlike the M8.

You made the right choice. I have enjoyed AMG's over the years but never liked the GT63S from day one, as it's trying too hard to be coupeish when in reality it's simply a sporty 4 door sedan. I really don't like "4 door coupes" (which is an oxymoron to begin with) but the BMW GC is the best looking of them all imo. I also don't care for the Panamera either.

Meh, 53 AMG models are basic.
