Loving the new M8 Competition Coupe
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I've been BMW brand loyal for 15 years and very much enjoyed owning a Steel Grey 330ci -> Imola Red E46 M3 -> Alpine White E92 M3 -> Alpine White 650i GC -> Sakhir Orange M6 GC -> Marina Bay Blue M8C. Coming from the M6 to the M8 feels like BMW has moved into the next generation of M cars. The technology is on point, the interior is lux but aggressive, and the performance is next level. I never really felt like I needed more power after three years in the M6 but this car takes it to a whole new level. The 4WD puts the power to the road in a way I have never experienced with BMW, even in wetter conditions. It's just a blast to drive. I had the akrapovic exhaust on the M6 so the M8 feels a little quieter, but definitely has a bark to it. The burbles are something new for me but overall sounds great. Might explore an exhaust upgrade in the future...just don't want it obnoxiously loud. The remote start in a parking garage is a nice way to enjoy the cold start after a long day at the office.... Overall just wanted to show some love and champion a well executed and beautifully designed addition to the M family. Cheers everyone! |

Thanks all!
If anyone is on the fence with Marina Bay Blue you should definitely check it out in person. Photos do not do it justice. It looks like the batmobile. It reminds me of interlagos blue but with less purple and a lot of "depth"....at night it can almost look black and then when it hits the light the color looks incredible. Definitely shows dirt quickly though...I have a feeling I'll be spending a little more time keeping her clean. Anyone have any experience with the ceramic coatings on a color like this? Are they worth it? Is it more for long-term protection or does it enhance the overall color/shine, etc.? |

Love it! Picked the same exterior color. I had silver stone on my older M6 V10s but hard to keep clean and color from clothing so be careful.

If your leasing or flipping every 2-5 years, it might not be worth it. If you're holding 5-10 years, it's probably worth it. If you're a long term 10+ yrs; definitely get the film and coating. It does enhance color and shine and it lasts about 5 years if you don't abuse it. But it's mainly for protection and make washing easygoing. For me, I almost did it, but I found that as soon as you get in a wreck it's got to be redone and it doesn't help. [see bloozemanAZ post about the scrape he just had in his M850i] and in the DC DMV area here, we get fender benders a lot. Also I need the inside cleaned often from the winter and rain mud. For me getting a full detailing at $300 every 6 months is about equal to a ceramic once 1. And so I'm going the details route, but next time I might do ceramic. |

That's great info - thanks, Resjudicata.
With this color showing dirt much quicker along with how great the it looks when it's super clean, I might just pull the trigger on it. There is a pretty solid detail shop in Houston (https://www.vive-houston.com) that I have heard great things about. They offer some really comprehensive services...going to discuss with them next week and see if it's worth it. Also want to snag some CF mirror caps...I think they really look great and I enjoyed them with the M6. A bit less cash than the $5k carbon package from the factory. Most of the black detailing that comes with the competition (splitters, diffuser, side gills, etc.) looks slick. |

I have it on my 2020 M5C in Donington. It's everything everyone says it is. Frankly, I don't understand why it's not straight from the factory.
I have a 3-layer ceramic coat on my car and it's still shining today after weeks of solid rain and me doing nothing since it's last proper clean a few weeks back. As others have said, it's worth every penny. |

It's like a screen protector or case on a new iPhone or Samsung. It will never be from the factory but most people will think it's necessary. Some people still like it "pure" or clean. But most people will have a plastic over the glass. |

Stunning M8C in Marina Bay Blue! In regards to a ceramic coating the easy answer is absolutely do so but I'd also recommend PPF at least on the front-end, mirrors, rockers, and roof prior to doing so. I did a lot of research on ceramic coatings and ended up with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra but you cannot go wrong with Ceramic Pro as well.
My M850i's Tanzanite Blue is darker and shows more dirt than Marina Bay but with the ceramic coating an Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine (aka ONR) touch up when needed between professional detailed washes keeps the car immaculate. Just be careful as you want the blue vs green ONR as the latter has wax. |

Side note on that is either keep your Connected Drive password simple without special characters (do not recommend) or choose one without an "@" for the special characters is that is now a know bug in BMW's system. Proven special characters to date are either "#" or "*" based on info shared on the forum.
