Just got M850i loaner....WTF?!
The exhaust sounds 50 times better than the M8. Major fail on BMW’s part.

Yes this is ascertained though it would be interesting to know which I-Level (aka I-Step) the mentioned loaner car has. The first M850s (including my former 2019 model) were VERY loud and sounded more like an M8 should sound (or have sounded for that matter). Later as BMW released various updates over the months and years, even the M850ies were "silenced" somewhat and no longer sounded/sound as great as they initially did. So that loaner you got could indeed still be running an "older" I-Level software and thus still produce the nice pops and bangs even in NON-sport settings.

I can guarantee it's not ASD synthesized sound. Even prior to pulling the fuse for ASD when the wife was in the car aka B&W at 20% or less all I did was relish in the true exhaust. Now with ASD defeated via athe fuse it is frankly no different as when I was solo withe the B&W at 50+ plus it drowned out the ASD and I could still hear every burble/gurgle (normal driving) or the pop/bang fire show on a performance drive.

Exactly! I just installed the Dinan X-pipe and MAD secondaries this week on my M8 GC. Super happy with the sound, a little deeper rumble down low and more exotic tones up top. It now sounds how it should have come from the factory.

It's real and not synthesized. You also have a feature in the iDrive to set the car to sport mode where the sound of the engine is always loud when you start it even in Comfort mode. I love it... When driving in Sport+, the M850 can turn heads when passing by!

Purposely bought m850 over m8 due to engine sound and suspension compliance, although the 20s on pz4 runflats is still pretty uncomfortable in the 850

Not sure what software updates you’re talking about. My car has the latest update and is loud like hell even when it’s not in Sport+. BMW lately is making a lot to stupid things and making the King (M8) of BMW quiet is beyond stupidity…

Where in the menu is this setting? I’d like to turn it on in my car.

Thank you! I’ve only had my M850 for a few days and I’m still getting it set up how I like it. This is amazing.
