How long before a BMW unveils a twin-turbo V8 ?

From what BMW has learned from the 335 engine and the upcoming M3's 4 liter V8, how long before we see a lower compression, lower reving 4 liter V8 with turbos from BMW? And for what application? The X5 or 7-series?

that's a pretty drastic question you have there, to tell you the truth I haven't heard of anything like that. plus the twin turbo 6 cyl is brand new so theyre just kinda getting into the market

Actually, it is planned for introduction as a DI as well in the 7 series (next generation), within the next 2 years

Yeah, I would think a 4 liter twin turbo V8 would be inevitable at this point. Besides being in the larger vehicles, maybe it could even make it into a 5 series. I couldn't really see it in any 3 series application, at least for a production BMW.

Rumor has it that the biturbo 4.4 V8 will be introduced in the F10, the 5 series next designation. It will bow sometime in '09 or '10.

I believe the entire idea behind the direct injection is to run cooler so that compression doesn't have to be as low. Plus the biturbos on the 335 are smaller to minimize lag.

Unlikely. BMW will want to keep their M division with N/A engines. But you never know, they may change their minds in the future. It's been reported that the copycat engine of the M5 that AMG built for the E63 will be supercharged in a few years.

Not a chance of that happening. If anything, the next e60 5-series will have the biturbo inline 6 from the 335, which would be the 535i.

Can't enjoy the v8 M3, it's not here yet. I have heard that it will be pushing in excess of 420hp. We'll all soon find out.

According to the traditional seven-year BMW lifecycle, the next 5-Series would be introduced for the 2011 model year.

hmmmmm, why would they do that?? the 4.8 V8 engine already produces 362 hp, i dont think they would want to add the turbos for an additional 40hp

the turbo is the future for them. they can make smaller, lighter engines with more power which makes for better handling. quite a few mags i have read say a new z8 will be an 2010-11 with twin turbo z8. its in the automobile august 06 page 58. state there will be a 4.4 liter turbo v8 with over 400 horse with dual clutch trany by 2010. it also smaller and larger engines might be in it also.
