A sunroof in the 8 series coupe would be a headache in terms of packaging because of the shape/contour of the roof in the coupe...even if possible it would lead to a lot of headroom compromise. So a sunroof is not even an option in the coupe BUT all is not lost as the good news is you will be able to opt for a sunroof in the 8 series grancoupe.

Pretty sure the roof isn't large enough. Honestly while i do enjoy a sunroof, if the car drives so well compred to other vehicles, I'd take it despite that. If you want an open air experience, get the convertible.

I too would love a sun/moon roof. If there was a panoramic roof option maybe?

Once you see the car in the flesh you’ll realize a sunroof won’t work. Personally, I’m done with sunroofs. If they come with the car, fine. But to me it doesn’t matter one way or the other.

Another poor choice and compromise made by bmw on a car that is priced to exceed expectations. This 8er is destined to fail like the original 8er, overpromised underdelivered.

While a true opening sunroof is not practical due to the design, a panoramic roof option is a must just like the E63 had. The lack of a glass roof in a car designed as such makes the interior feel so small and tight even though its a huge coupe. I had an E63 645ci and then an E63 M6, the only thing I didnt like about the M6 was the roof and lack of panoroof option. The CF roof might look nice outside but severly affects the feeling inside and on a car like the 8er which has no track requirements where the CF roof may make a tiny difference in center if gravity, its all for show and a rediculous compromise and design flaw. This is definitely a fail by bmw, they missed the mark so far on this car and I wanted to luv it but it is what it is.

You do realize that Aston Martin doesn’t put sunroofs in their cars. Having owned several Aston Martins I can say from personal experience that the lack of a sunroof didn’t dismish the desirability and prestige of those cars. I think it’s time to enjoy what BMW has accomplished with the 850i and stop the needless nitpicking.

There is zero comparison between the cars and the brands so i dont see what your comments mean. Bmw had rebranded an existing car, the 6er which ive owned 3 , an E63 645ci, an E63 M6 and then F06 640i gran coupe so I know them very well. There is nothing amazing in the 8er product, its the next gen 6er with great bmw marketing thats it. Im a life long fan and owner of the cars so there is no hate just honesty as i wanted to luv this but its an epic fail on so many levels. I can only hope they learn and get it right in a future model but im not interested in this car nor this design iteration, and the roof has a major impact on the driving experience.

My comments meant three things: (i) that a premium brand like Aston Martin has decided not to put sunroofs in their cars; (ii) that I think BMW has done a spectacular job on the 850i; and (iii) I personally don’t care about sunroofs. You obviously have the other side of that trade so I guess BMW will be selling one less 850i.

I prefer no sunroof myself. I much prefer an appealing roofline over a useless sunroof. The only 6er I've owned was an F13 M6 with a CF roof. Currently own a F80 M3 CS with a CF roof. Actually I really hate sunroofs. Some people need to realize that BMW doesn't design cars around one consumer's own personal desires.

The carbon fiber roof looks amazing on this car and I would much rather have that then a sunroof.

Well it seems as if this is a divided opinion. I have a feeling that if this car sells well, they may very well give it as an option. If you actually try and configure the car, there is very little you can tweak. This is a smart move by bmw to make their new flagship line as simple as possible to avoid complications during manufacturing. Once they get manufacturing down and a sense of demand, they probably will expand many customizable options.

Agree as I'm the same. In FL, I don't need it.

Me personally I like a sun/moon roof. However it is a personal preference. That being said, with all the various opinions seems like BMW should have designed it be a no cost option like on the M5. Of course that would change the design a bit. To me the fact there are so much feed back means it should be offered.

What? ANY car that isn't personally designed for my own custom needs is destined to FAIL! Isn't that how it works? Doesn't everyone think EXACTLY like me?

I predict the new 8 coupe will be selling poorly and value will drop huge like another big unsporty coupes. They may have better success with vert/convertible because it will appeal to elderly FL population (like s560) plus in convertible they will have head room for grandkids heads.

A sunroof on this coupe? No way!
That sexy carbon fiber roofline deserves to be unbroken.
If anything a Targa top would suit the personality of this beauty/beast.
After seeing in person, I really believe that this is Germany's unwitting homage to the American muscle car.
GT lines! Slinky/sleazy sexmotel interior! Honking big V8!
Your Porsche/Aston Martin driving friends at the club probably won't be impressed. Your 'Stang and ' Vette friends will take you down the shore and get you laid in this baby!

Yuck! Lmao No sunroof but gain 2 extra doors...ouch!
I, personally, don't get the "Gran coupes" 2 extra doors on your 4? Isn't that a 3 or a 5? 2 extra on your 6? Isn't that a 5 or a 7? 2 extra doors on an 8? Isn't that a travesty!? lol
Sorry but just my 2 cents
