Shopped around a little bit. The 6-speeds are hard to find. I found a dealer with a green one. It is a 2017 with about $2K less in options but is $85 less per month. I am going to send the original dealer an email asking him to double check his numbers lol

Keep in mind that they're redesigning the challenger next year so don't get it unless you want to end up with a new car that'll be outdated in a year. Having said that, they'll have a hard time improving the current challenger's unapologetic muscle car looks

The Hellcat is a beast, leasing one would be $600-700 per month. The 485HP 392 is still a 12-second car. That is fast (for a car) in almost everyone's book. Plus, I hear insurance is insane on them but what would you expect with 707HP?! lol

Exactly, I never put money down on a lease - will only pay the startups which have typically been $400-$800 depending on the number of discounts I receive.

There are different rumors the new one may be smaller and share platforms with the Alfa Romeo Giulia. I have a feeling this may be my last realistic opportunity to have something like this.

Here is the current update.

I have been in talks with dealership #2 about a green Challenger 392 6-speed with a MSRP approximately $2,000 less than the 2016 from the original post. The quote on the green car was about $85 less per month with the other terms being the same.

Last night I was told by dealership #1 that starting June 1st, the leasing incentives have been removed from the 2016 and therefore it would not make any sense to pursue. The 2017 models make way more sense to lease than the 2016. In fact, if they had the green car from dealership #2, that they would lease it to me for ~$20 less than their price. Dealer #1 was also a lot less pushy this time, back to normal.

The problem is dealership #1 doesn’t have any in stock and many don’t. A quick search by dealership #1 revealed very few 6-speed cars available and even less with similar options. Not surprisingly, most are ordered with the 8-speed automatic and if I wanted an automatic I would most likely just get a Charger 392. The search did reveal a similarly equipped white 6-speed but just like the green, white would not be my first choice.

I did my own search and found one in Ohio. Not sure their radius is on dealer trade but I sent the window sticker to dealership #1 and we’ll go from there. Unfortunately, he took Friday off for a long weekend so it will be Monday before he can do anything.

I do have a dealership rant. Since buying my first new car in 2003, I have completed all car purchasing negotiations prior to stepping foot into the dealership. The contact at my local dealership group selling VW/Chevy/Toyota is great at this.

When I send quote requests, I am very specific. I will include a stock # and/or VIN with detailed leasing terms (months, miles, down payment, discounts, etc). It kills me when they reply with questions already answered or give me a quote for totally different trim level. Sometimes I don’t even get a reply.

However, the worst is when they only want to talk numbers in person. F-that, give the numbers and then I will decide if I want to come in. I don’t want to be trapped at the dealership watching you fill out your four-square!

You can lease a HC for $500 a month.

Not with zero down. To get a Hellcat for $500 per month, you would likely need to have a down payment of $5,000. Never put money down on a lease.

OR...just don't lease! Are you going to put your company name on the side of it?

I don't want to turn this into a purchase/lease debate but I am perfectly happy paying on the car's depreciation and passing the residual value risk onto the leasing company.

Yeah, that's a giant pain and unfortunately more dealers than not will not play ball over email.

I'm in Madison, WI and generally when I'm car shopping I want something specific that ends up not being available here locally because it's a small/midsize car market and most everyone drives boring cars, not interesting ones.

So inevitably I end up trying to get quotes from out-of-town dealers and the most common response to trying to handle it by email is them wanting to talk on the phone, and not understanding that no, I won't just come on down for a test drive because I'm 2 hours away which is what I said in the very first email.

I cannot wait until we can skip the middleman and buy directly from the manufacturer, similar to the Tesla model. Depending on the vehicle, the dealership can make profit from the sale of a single vehicle than the manufacturer. Wouldn't it be great to be able to build your vehicle virtually, choose the terms of the lease/financing and then make arrangements for the deliver?

The Challenger 392 6-speeds are a rare species. Over the weekend, I had expanded my search up to 500 miles and found a few I really liked including a Yellow T/A which was my #1 choice. Unfortunately, my dealer called today and said that per FCA guidelines, they can only do 250 actual road miles each way (500 round trip) on dealer trades or I would have to pay extra for a flatbed. All three of those exceed the 500 round trip. Damn it!!

After an exhaustive search within a 250 mile traveling distance, I found a Challenger Scat Pack 392 6-speed that could work. It has most of the options I want including the Dynamics Package (Hellcat 275-width wheels; 6-piston Brembo brakes), leather group and sunroof. I put a deposit down. We'll see if it'll work out.

White would have likely been my 4th or 5th choice but it is starting to grow on me. Goes well with the red interior. These are the photos from the Ohio dealership's website (it would have made more sense to take a photo of the front 6-piston calipers):

Maybe add some fender stripes like this but with "392" or something instead of "R/T":

They are scheduling the trade for tomorrow (Wednesday). We have tentatively scheduled for someone from the dealership to pick me up from my house Thursday morning for delivery.

All this talk of Hellcats is moot as the CDI code does not apply to SRT vehicles. I'm a CDI customer as well and LOVE the discount.

I think it looks even better in person. Drives amazing. The power and sound is intoxicating. The biggest surprise has to be how well the manual shifts - likely the favorite of the ones I have owned.
