Getting a New Drone?

With the release of the GoPro Karma and the DJI Mavic Pro, are any of you considering buying one? Or maybe getting a different one?

I am selling my Phantom 3 Advanced and preordered the Mavic Pro.

Looking at getting a Mavic - but haven't checked out all it's features yet.

Karma versus Mavic should be very interesting.

For me the Mavic is a no brainer between the two.

Karma still requires a dedicated bag that is just an additional piece of luggage I'd need to lug around while traveling. The Mavic can slide right into my backpack along with my laptop/all my other gear. That to me makes it indispensable.

Video and photo quality will likely be better on the Karma due to the GoPro, but early tests show great footage from the Mavic. I am no professional photo/videographer so it will definitely be good for my purposes.

I've had my eyes on the Yi Erida & as soon as it's available I'll hop on it.

Any particular reason you're choosing this one? I've never heard of it just curious. Reading its supposed to be the fastest drone but since I do photo/video I don't really need top speed. Anything else you like it?

I'm in for a Mavic. I even know a gopro employee that can get me a discount on a karma. The portability is just to appealing. I need a drone that doesn't get in the way of my life. The karma does two things well, but the Mavic does one thing amazingly.

Looking at diving into this thing as well. From initial impressions, looks like the Mavic is better. Some say the GoPro cameras have slacked off in terms of PQ while the DJIs have caught up with them and have surpassed them.
Mavic is $1k and it has everything, camera and all. Karma is $800 but no camera yet but it has the stabilizer stick with it. Mavic is smaller though so easier to lug around.

The Karma I don't believe will lock on to the subject and follow, but the latest GoPro camera should be very good. And they have 'bundle' pricing.

Will the tiny Mavic be more susceptible to wind? I saw one test video where it seemed to handle wind quite well when landing.

Just watch the latest casey neistat video on youtube. He flies the mavic out in some pretty strong winds. commenters are saying he doesn't have it focused right so ignore the video quality.

Really liking the removable gimbal of the GoPro Karma. Also already own a couple GoPro cameras. Karma looks compact enough, I don't necessarily need to put a drone in my pocket. Mavic does have a longer flight time though. But if Karma ends up having better image, then I can overlook that. Need to see some side by side tests done.

Unfortunately the Mavic doesn't even come close to the video quality of the DJI 4

You didn't read the comment above.

He doesn't have the camera focused properly...read his Twitter timeline where he says he mistakenly didn't set the focus to infinity. Massive impact on quality. There is a guy out there on one of the forums that posted the raw 4k video and its extremely sharp.

From someone who knows how to read the manual.

Between the two, Mavic absolutely. Personally, I think the GoPro drone is a joke. They need to stick to the action cams.

The only redeeming thing about the Karma is the modular ability. It is a nice package for those that want to be able to take the Gimbal off and use the handheld etc.

However, they sell it as a drone that fits in a backpack, but in reality it still only fits in *their* backpack.

Mavic is just much nicer overall.

Well I thought the Karma drone was the most amazing thing ever released. Then one week later it was obsolete. Tech moves fast.

Mavic quality still looks worse in those videos above. I know DJI made mavic more portable, but they shouldn't be taking steps back in image quality.

I was interested, but I think I will wait until a higher end model comes out.

I figure I can sacrifice a slight amount on quality based on the form factor. I love the GoPro quality, but removing the fisheye in post every time is a pain, and the Mavic seems to have the most features for me.

I plan on doing cinematography as well. That's the main reason, but I'd like to have fun with it too. I've been researching so many drones, this one just appeals to me. The only thing I don't know yet is how far away from you it can travel. For those of you interested in the DJI Mavic Pro or the Phantom, check this out:
