"Used" 2024 M8 coupe w/ 500 miles - thoughts??

Hey folks. I found what I believe is a good deal on a 2024 M8 Coupe at a BMW dealership. Since it only has 500 miles (previous owner had it two months then sold it back), dealer did not CPO. It of course still has factory warranty and looks to be immaculate.

It's Dravit Grey with Black/Sakhir Orange Alcantara, and has every option except for carbon ceramics. Sticker was $157. They're asking $128. Looking for some input on this, recommendations on what offer to make, etc. Thanks in advance!

What options does it have? Easier to give an opinion if we know what options car has.

One thing I would recommend is emailing the dealer and asking why the first owner returned it and if any work has been done to the car since it’s return and insist on a response in writing/email.

No reason to doubt anything is/has been wrong with the car but the circumstances beg the question.

The reason I raise this is I bought a 328GT with 58 miles on it from a main dealer and after a lot of grief/pushing I learned the car had been returned by the initial purchaser as ‘not fit for purpose’ and had over £9k of repairs/paint undertaken, some of which proved troublesome during my ownership.

It coukd just be that the original owner realised the back seat is next to useless unless it is for transporting people you don’t like

Triple net on that car was around 139k and there are no rebates- the deal seems good because its a 24 and only 500 miles. They cant lease it now that its been registered (not new or untitled demo) so if the car checks out, grab it (if of course you like the color and options etc)

Grab a paint meter and run the car as you touch it... just to make sure no body/paint work as well. I think you are ok and CPO is moot here with such low miles and a recent in service date with BMWNA.

I'm not crazy about the Dravit Grey (not a fan of the bronze metallic flakes), so I'll probably do a full-body PPF wrap in matte, or a grey or silver color-change matte. Likely $6K+ cost to do this.

I also do not like the wheels at all, which are the 20" M Double-spoke black wheels (style 810M). I want the 20" M Star-spoke Bi-color Black/Grey Wheels (style 813M) or 2nd choice, 20" M Star-spoke bi-color wheels (style 811M). I've looked for new and used wheels online and can't seem to find a set less than $4-5K.

Thanks, all. My only real remaining concern is the wheels. It has the 810M double-spoke black wheels, and I want either the 813M star-spoke bi-color black/grey wheels (1st choice) or the 811M star-spoke wheels (2nd choice).

I'm not sure if I should try to negotiate that with with the dealer or just plan to sell them and buy what I want. Seems I'd only be able to get ~$2K for the 810M wheels and would have to spend ~$4-5K for either the 813M or 811M wheels. I'm not finding any cheaper options either new or used. Any further recommendations on the wheel dilemma would be much appreciated! Thanks!!

You are sooooooooo wrong about Dravit…it is awesome.

It also hides the dirt incredibly well….

Worst case, I can wrap it. I want matte anyway. That just leaves wheel concern. Not sure the best way to handle that.

Ironic--- I have the 810s and put BBS LM's on but had the 813's on my GC and kept em. I like the 811's the best (me that is).

Your cost savings on the car easily offset the charges to make the car your own IMHO.

I do like Dravit though--- so damn dynamic across the light spectrum.

If you don't like the color and you don't like the wheels and you are planning on spending $10,000 to fix those issues you might as well look for a car that is the color you want and has the wheels you want - I would think for $138,000 you might even be able to get a dealer to sell you a new one at that price.

Correct-o-Mundo..

Search nationally, negotiate terms and purchase remotely, fly-in, drive it
home.

While renewing a portion of my fleet last year I purchased 4 vehicles this way. Saved an enormous amount of money and time. I was able to literally search and cherry pick exactly what I wanted and/or needed from a dealer.

For a $140k-$180k car, there should be no compromise.

The 810s may grow on you. I wouldn’t worry too much about them yet. I get it though. The 811s and 813s aren’t soooo much greater to spend money on. They’re ‘stock’. You can do better than those for same money. BMW wheels are horribly overpriced and not a performance wheel. Unless you live in pothole city and are driv8ng it all through a shitty winter. Also, damage that wheel with no wheel warranty and you’ll be shocked at replacement value.

You have the perfect colour for the black 810s. I love that combo. Nice interior colour too.

Very good deal, pending learning why the car was returned so quickly. At this price range, everything about the car has to be perfect for your taste and preferences. I suggest to keep looking until the right car surfaces. The target customer segment for these cars is smaller. You will find the right car. Just plan for one way air fare at some point and enjoy the drive home.

2023 used coupes for sale - avg $116K

Here are all the 2023 coupes I've found. I can't believe the depreciation is so high. Average listed price is $116K, and all but one have < $5K miles.

So do these take another drop in January since they will be considered one year old? Or has that already happened?

Good question. I'm not sure, but I suspect as such, probably another $10K.

As a new model year comes out, calendar year not withstanding, the prior becomes a 1 year old model. So even though I have a 2023 M8, since the 24's are out, its a one year old car but we are still in 2023. Standard car theory here but Jan 1 wont be a big deal since the 24's were out already a few months back or whenever.

The bigger weight on my year of car is not the year but now the mileage. Its all good, I knew I was going to take a hit when I got my 23 back in August of 22; but I did get the base comp msrp of 130k vs the next batch of 23's at 134k. Now the 24's are 136800 so that helps in valuation if one likes to dream that M coupes hold value LOL.

That’s like 20% off with only 500 miles. I’d jump on it.

I bought a 2022 M850i when 2023 were already on the lots. It was a big mistake because it had no meaningful discount and being a year older hurt resale even further.

I wonder why there's so many low mileage used ones? If you buy an 8 series and know what to expect, it's far from being a terrible car (except for depreciation). Maybe a lot of buyers get spooked by the depreciation they were not prepared for and bail as a result?
