I wouldn't bring clients out in it, but as far as a fun car to get me to the train in any weather, I think it's a great car. It also holds its value extremely well. Even the lease residual is 70%. Pretty wild.

The high-ish roof line also makes it a great family car (seats fit in it great).

I can understand that.

Too bad looks are subjective. There's nothing about the car that is ugly. One could accuse it of being conservative, plain, etc, but it is nowhere near extreme enough to be ugly.

And the average age of R buyers is well over 30.

YMMV, but VW in Downtown LA gave me $1000 off msrp on a Golf R back in May.

Not saying discounts are impossible to find, but of all the cars on the dealer lot, this is the one you would be hardest pressed to get a discount on. If they're desperate to move units at the end of a month, they'll definitely work with you. That's how I got $8k off my CC.

Im happy with my 2016 Mk7 R its my daily driver ,its fast fun too drive have good comfort with the dcc chassis interior is nice and spacious and i think its the nicest looking car in its class.
As i live in Sweden mine is a Euro spec as i understand it there are some differences with North American cars at least a couple of years ago.

Did some test with my Vbox Sport 20HZ and managed to do 0-60 in 4,4 sec 1/8 mile in 8,07@89mph and 1/4 mile in 12,58@109,5mph this in a bone stock car!

My only complain is that the DSG changes gear automatically if you hit redline even if you use the transmission in manual mode but apparently there dsg software tunes out there to fix this.

That and the kickdown behavior. I highly recommend a dsg tune.

The APR DSG tune is supposed to be great.

Are you considering an ecu tune at some point? If so it's generally worthwhile to use their dsg software as well since they can compliment each other. APR or GIAC

If you have any trouble finding a suitable place to flash let me know, I worked for an eu based vag tuner for 10 years so I may know somebody that can assist.

There are a couple of tuners here in Sweden that do VW's but I let you know if they can't tune.
Thanks
