Best bang around $120k, new or used

I'm looking for a 2 door to step up from my C63 that I use mostly on a daily basis, but still only put around 5-6k miles/year. I'm finding the decision more difficult than anticipated. These are some of the vehicles I've narrowed it down to, although I'm not sold on the AMG GTS looks at all so that's probably out:

- 991 Turbo
- Aston Martin DBS
- Jaguar F-Type R
- AMG GTS

Of these, the 991 Turbo appears to be the best option from a pure performance perspective, but arguably it's most pedestrian looking out of the bunch? I do, however, love the 991 GT3 but alas the resale on those is so strong and I'm not willing to pay $150k for a used one.

Is there any other compelling option I'm missing?

It would be hard to argue against the Porsche being the safest bet of that bunch. I actually think the most pedestrian would be the Jag. I see those all over the place all of a sudden. The P-car is also arguably the most reliable of the bunch.

The Aston is drop dead gorgeous but I would opt for a Vantage V12 manual if I were to go Aston. Now THAT would solve your pedestrian issue.

The AMG looks much better in the flesh than on a screen or glossy pages. I was very impressed when I first saw one and my heart still flutters a little each time I see one. That doesn't happen with any of the other cars mentioned. I also see a couple of these that people commute to Manhattan in on a daily basis so it appears to be pretty DD friendly.

I still think the smart money is on the P-car for performance, usability, and reliability. My buddy has a 997 turbo Venom 620 that he tracks several times a year and still drives to the train everyday.

I appreciate your thoughts! Actually you know you're right, the Jaguar is probably the most pedestrian of the bunch. When I first saw one last year (white with black wheels/trim) it made me do a double take...I thought it was pretty eye catching. But I see a lot of the V6 models running around now which look almost identical to the R so it does seem less special now.

Yes I still find the Aston's stunning. They seem to age really well so in that aspect an older 2010 model wouldn't bother me, but I would be missing out on some of the latest tech like the dual clutch trans, and of course it's the slowest of the bunch. Not that all out speed is the purpose of this car. Luxury and class though would go wayyy up though

But yeah I've been watching videos on the 991 Turbo and wow it's such a beast. I tried not making speed/power a priority this go around but it's hard to turn it down when you see this car competing with all the big boys. And I do love to mod so Stage 2/3 would be in the works. It does seem to be the safe choice. I just wish it had the more aggressive styling of the GT3/RS!

I'll have to check out the AMG in person again. I did see one at a car show last year in the golden yellow, but perhaps another color will get me more excited about it. My MB tech loves the car.

I saw a bright blue Jag the other day and it was stunning. Think as long as it's not a pedestrian color it's not a boring looking car. It's quite beautiful IMO.

The Aston is going to look outdated now that the DB11 is out. You might want to check out CPO McLaren 12C's if you want something totally bonkers considering that the 650S is merely a facelift, but unfortunately even that's going to look old as well once the 700S is out next year.

I agree with you about the GTS - to me it looks like a korean replica of an SLS AMG although it drives really well. If I had to choose "any" car for $120k I'd personally buy a Viper GTS or ACR but I get that you're more into Euro GT's so I'd recommend the Aston Martin Rapide considering that the new shape is still a few years away so it looks current and stunning at the same time.

I watched Head 2 Head last night, GTR vs Z28......for your "bang for the buck" title you might want to look there. There's also the 350 GTR....damn.

Hands down Porsche. You will lose the least when you go to sell it. Hell if you choose the correct Porsche you might even make some money down the line.

The F-Type SVR is the only Jag I would consider -- the 575 HP plus AWD (rear-wheel bias) make it much better than the R version. It also has one of the best exhaust notes around for a V6.

I actually like the AMG GT and it's had favorable reviews. I'm waiting for the test drives of the new AMG GT R version that debuted recently at.

The Maserati/Aston types are great cars but never push the performance envelope like the 911 will. My brother has a GranTurismo GT and it's 0-60 in 4.6?

Porsche 911 --> you can get something really amazing in this price range.... There's a 2014 911 Turbo for $128k at a nearby dealership...they also have a 2014 911 Turbo S $145k.

Yes. You may want to include Audi R8 to your list!

And honestly, it's hard to not at least include a brand new Z06 in terms of: stats, looks and livability. Or especially GT-R. Which is utterly the best band for the buck overall.
