next m8 / 8 series refresh?

Any news or rumors on when the replacement for the 8 / m8 will be? Does it not feel like the oldest car in the fleet with the obsolete idrive and such…?

Yea, there've been a few threads on this. Rumors are between...

--no more 8 series
--8 continuing in sedan version only
--new 6 series to replace the 8, and will that come in a coupe and sedan or just a sedan?

It's all a speculation at this point. Based on recent BMW new design language and offerings I'm not convinced they'll come up with anything attractive so I got on the allocation list for a 911.

I hear ya on the “not convinced”. I’m on my second m6 f06 lol

Personally trying to hang in there and keep waiting a bit longer to see what if anything is announced…

the 911 allocation list takes long enough (12-18 months) that I should still be waiting by the time they announce an 8 successor or not. So I'll be able to decide which way to go and not have FOMO.

There will not be a new M8 . No more lci . The coupe WILL be a future rare car to see. Only M8 or ( M6 to be known as ) to continue will be the GC . I guess that , that will have the S68 hybrid engine , but no M8 coupes.
Personally , I can't see bmw improve on the already sexy looking coupe. If you keep any good car long enough , it will be rare .

Usually it's six years before you see a new model. They released the LCI this year, so give it another year before you start seeing some data. Regardless, I love how aggressive the 8 series look, it is a head turning vehicle!

The current 8-series runs through MY 2025 and the 2023 was the LCI (although pretty much a joke outside of sparing the line from the semi-abysmal iD8). There is supposedly a successor for MY 2026 but as already stated it may be GC only, a mashup of the 6 and 8, PHEV, full EV or in other words who the hell knows and I'll believe it when I see it. 😜

I may go the 911 route or a 2025 LC500 as that too is rumored as the last year of it's glorious NA V8. The AMG GT coupe is in the mix along with a few others as well. But all ICE or no sale. 👍

As far as I know there will be a run of the 8 series until 2026. So , no refresh as it will not be replaced . The coupe will be killed of and any new variant to replace the 8 will be a GC version . Sad.

Pretty sad to imagine this be the case without at least a new dash and cluster retrofit at the very minimum… like buying an new vehicle with tech that’s already 1-2 years behind… all while knowing the rest of the fleet has the current tech

Here’s a more recent article confirming (or repeating?) the rumour about death of the 8 series coupe.

I agree with those who are looking forward to fewer of these cars on the road. Will make them that more special.

Yea, they are pushing me away with all of their recent designs as well. I think I will still keep getting X vehicles but all of their recent car offerings are really unattractive to me. Hence I'm waiting on a Porsche allocation.

We will see if those plans hold up as EV's are not selling well. MB pulled back on their movement to an all-electric vehicle product line recently. I'm guessing we will see similar movement from others. Toyota is pushing Hybrid, not EV as their future. Money still talks at the end of the day and if people refuse to buy these things, especially if rebates go away, then we may get better ICE options.

I have no interest in EV's and don't see that changing. Young people may see it differently, as they never knew muscle cars and other high-performance cars.

I do agree that most EV's are ugly. Why the need to make them look "special" or have these extra lights to simulate electric powered. Just make attractive cars and trucks.

Agreed. I have no interest in a full EV. I would take a hybrid, but I'm not ready to only be on battery power. I don't think the charging infrastructure is there yet and I like being able to stop at a gas station and be back to full power in 5 minutes.

Also on the topic of making EVs look special I don't get it. I'm not a car designer so I don't know what to do with this but you'd think they could design the front of the car with something other than fake grills with a pattern on them.

I am not sure I would think of ID8 as a plus. I dont think the trend to touchscreens is all a good thing. Look, I am a geek (work for hyperscaler, and a wireless guy) but it is just not natural to have to look at a screen and place a finger at exectly the right place to activate a temp control or something.

I cant stand when I get an Uber or Lyft with a Tesla 3, and the driver has to spend all his time look and pecking at a screen to do anything at all. No wonder they hit all those things.

Tech's job is to do its thing naturally, and in the background; not scream at you and demand your attention!

I don't look at it as a Plus either at this point however, if you look at reviews from all the people that have owned it for a while they actually seem to not mind it and even like it. I'm totally in the, give me my buttons back, camp though

I see there is some pressure pushing for screen size limit, and required button list things like climate and stereo. From what it looks like our EU peeps are leading that charge, but who knows if it will end up on the books.

The current EV selection of vehicles does zero for my interest in automobiles.
Glad I've equipped myself with a number of ICE vehicles. They will be my retirement vehicles.
UGLY !!!!!!
Exactly...fake grills and stupid lines. I wouldn't buy one if they were half price.
The government here in Canada is pushing these things pretty hard.
Same threat as others in the industry. NO MORE ICE's after a certain date.
Good thing some of the smarter companies are keeping ICE's close at hand still. They probably see the writing on the wall. EV's just aren't tickling peoples fancy.
