Hi all, so never had this issue before, its cold in new york now like 40F, ever since winter came I started having alot of gas smell in the interior with windows closed and doors closed. When I get out of car, its unbearable gas smell. Dosent always happen, only sometimes (70% of times)

My car has Secondary Downpipes only. Not primary.
If I remote start in morning, and let it idle, it smells like crazy

I have been on downpipes 1 year now, never faced this issue. Previously had M5 with Primary and Secondary Catless, with cold start delete, it did smell a little but not like this, my m8 dosent have cold start delete, so it does heat up the cats in startup

You guys think it can be a leak? If there is a leak, somewhere in the engine bay most likely, how much does it cost to repair or replace? Warranty expired hence asking

Thanks!

Can you smell it when it is not running? Like what happens when you go out in the AM but just turn the key allow the pump to start but not start the motor. Does it smell like gas? If not no leak. The pump runs on ignition turned on only so it primes the full system meaning if there was a leak it would be leaking. If not you are just smelling it run a bit rich in the AM for warm up.

Do you get that smell outdoors or only in the parking garages or garage?

Did some more testing, so it comes out when I turn on the AC. I dont think AC filter was ever changed out, im pretty sure the gas smell is coming from the AC vents because I was driving 40-45 minute without AC, there was no smell, till I turned on the heater and it came right away.

But still not sure how gas smell can get in the ac filter

Went to a shop to check the car, they are saying the gasket that connects to the downpipe is damaged need to get replaced. Is that covered under warranty? I do have secondary aftermarket downpipes though. I checked with bmw i still have 3 months warranty left 😂

Shop quoted me $150 per gasket.
